Do any of you guys carry insurance on your carts? I have started looking into this after noticing some campgrounds requiring proof of liability insurance if you take your own cart. Some even charge you a daily fee to bring your cart which I think is nuts.
Anyway, just curious if any of you guys have your carts insured. I checked with Progressive and it seems pretty reasonable plus it covers your trailer.

Thanks guys! Hope everyone has had a happy and safe Memorial weekend.

Ours is covered under our homeowners policy. Check with your agent.

I will check with them but it was my understanding that it is only covered at home not when you take it anywhere. Does yours cover it no matter where you are with the cart?

Yes, my cart has it's own policy through State Farm. It is an RV policy. My home owners policy would not carry it off my property. I pay less than $15 per year. It is also required to insure and get a DMV sticker here in SC.

This was $132 a year with $100,000 liability which was what seemed to be the required amount for campgrounds and it will cover our trailer. I asked Progressive and they said I had to have a seperate policy. We have our RV policy with them.
$15 per year is great.
We aren't required here in VA.

Your homeowners policy will generally cover liability while renting or borrowing a non-owned golf cart but just about EVERY homeowners policy excludes coverage for owned motorized and/or recreational type vehicles such as golfcarts, ATV's etc... unless used to service the premises. Then they are only covered while on your premises. An exception is provided for liability to golf carts while going to and from and while ON THE GOLF COURSE and used for golfing. There are some companies that have an endorsement you can pay for to add coverage for golf carts for liability and physical damage. If you do not have a seperate endorsement adding coverage to your homeowners then it is probably excluded and you will need to add this coverage or puchase a seperate policy. You should speak with your agent to verify and discuss the coverages of your homeowners policy as it applies to golf carts and recreational type vehicles.

I am going to call our company tomorrow and see what they have to say about it. Thanks.

It was explained to me by our insurance company (USAA) that the inclusion and/or exclusion of a cart varies by state law. We keep ours in North Carolina and the NC law specifically excludes cart coverage under the homeowners policy.

We added ours as a vehicle to our auto policy for about $60 a year.

wow, quite professional.

i was quite impressed myself (although it normally doesn't take much, but this time it was deserved!):lmao:

Well, I just got off the phone with our insurance company for our homeowner's policy. I was told that the policy would cover our golf cart. No matter where we took it. I will give them the info on the cart just so they have it on file but they don't even need that.
That is better then having to fork out more money. :thumbsup2 Doesn't make sense to get a seperate policy if this will cover it.

Our homeowners policy also covers my scooter which I already knew. Checked that out when I got my scooter a few years back.

Glad that worked for you. Will you get something to show at other campgrounds if asked?

lovedmouse,

What State do you live in and what Insurance Company is it? Just wondering as I find it very hard to believe your homeowners policy will cover your cart. Find out if they use the Standard ISO(insurance services office) homeowners form and if so, then they must have a special, company added endorsement or it is not covered. You can pm me if you do not want to make this information public. I just hate to see you get some bum information and then find out you have no coverage when you need it.

I will ask them and see what they say. Do you work for an insurance company or something? You sure are knowledgable. Thanks for your help.

I own an agency in Florida but I have found that the Northern States seem to have broader policies so yours probably does provide coverage but I would get it in writing anyway just to be safe.:thumbsup2
