Campground recommendations in the Plymouth/Cape Cod area?

I'm trying to plan a budget mini-vacation this summer and I was thinking of doing a 3 or 4 night camping weekend in late June with DH and DD14...I personally would prefer a campground that has cabins but we'd pack our tent if necessary (rain seems to follow us whenever we tent!!).

I was looking at the Boston/Cape Cod KOA in Middleboro or the Pinewood Lodge Campground in Plymouth. Has anyone stayed at either of these? Any other recommendations? We tend to like campgrounds that are wooded and clean bathrooms of course.:)

We've stayed at Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod in the past but it's completely booked (not at all surprised at this late date).

I was also looking at the Boston Minuteman Campground which is north of Boston so we'd probably spend a day in Boston in that case but I'd rather stay south of Boston so we can split our time between Plymouth and Cape Cod.

We are headed to Nickerson for the first time in late June so I won't be any help. Sorry, but good luck with your plans.

Hi my family has a seasonal at mapleparkfamilycampground in East Wareham,MA.
We like it because its wooded, they dont have any cabins, but I believe you can rent a RV on site. They a nice sandy beach area with a fresh water pond, basketball, and many activities for kids. There website has it listed. Ive never used the bathrooms because my DH and I have a RV. Oh it is also a JellyStone park so you do see Yogi and Boo Boo bear around which is fun for the kids. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Have you tried looking into Peters Pond in Sandwich Ma. I had stayed there back in the 80's and last summer recommended it to a friend of mine whose family started camping......she tried it and her family loved it. It is at the top of the "Cape" area, but it is an easy drive to sites.

Hope this Helps.

I can't help with actual campgrounds, I never ended up staying at one.

We researched campground cabins in Cape Cod last summer and they were going for about $800 a week if I recall correctly. I ended up finding a vacation rental online for late June for $600 a week right on the water. So for my budget vacation, I found a vacation rental was cheaper than camping.

We drove through a campground when we were staying at Nickerson and I almost think this is the one we drove through but it's been about 5 years so I can't quite remember but some of the pictures on the website look very familiar.

yearlightbuzz - Enjoy your stay at Nickerson, it's a beautiful campground...and big!! (we're kind of partial to the state park campgrounds)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!!:) I need to check with DH to see if he would prefer to stay on Cape Cod or closer to Plymouth.

We stayed at the KOA last fall and I enjoyed it. The bathrooms were clean.
And there were a lot of trees. We have our own trailer so I don't know specifically about the cabins. The pool is bigger than the Minuteman campground in Littleton. It's a KOA-there's a lot more to do. I believe they even have a doggy run. You are close to Boston and the Cape and much closer to the ocean.

Minuteman is quieter. The sites are closer together but also wooded. Bathrooms were clean there too. We stayed @ Minuteman a couple years ago. If I remember correctly, it's a ways off the highway. And if you are interested in the history aspect of Concord, etc then you are really close to that.

I would return to both of these campgrounds. Have fun whatever you choose!

Our extended family loves Pinewood Lodge in Plymouth. They go every summer!

We live in Oklahoma and haven't been, but had hoped to join them next month. Can't get our frequent flier miles to work out, though.

Have fun camping!

KOA in Middleboro is a very nice campground. The bathrooms are clean and they do have cute little cabins to rent. The pool is on the small side and they have a small arcade for the kids.

Peters Pond is bigger and having the pond there is very nice. I love the atmosphere there better than the KOA where there is only a pool. They have a few cabins to rent also. You can check out their website if interested.

Good luck, I love camping but we sold our RV because of the cost. Someday we will get another one I hope.

I have stayed at both the KOA and Pinewood lodge, although it has been at least 10 yrs ago. We preferred Pinewood lodge it hade some entertainment at night up at the main lodge and had a beach and boats.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone!! I'm also thinking about Myles Standish state park, I had forgot about that one and they have sites available unlike Nickerson...but that would mean we would have to tent (I really don't mind tenting but over the years we went from tenting to a pop-up to a trailer and back to tenting a couple years ago and I quickly discovered it's not easy going from a trailer back to a tent!!:teeth:).

Maybe I need to give DH the list of campgrounds that have been recommended here and let him decide!!:)

I have camped at Myles Standish also. As you say you would have to tent camp but that place is so beautiful it is worth it. I love the "real" camping feel you get when at a forest compared to a campground.
Maybe splitting your trip between two places would make your decision easier.
