I just posted this on the Transportation forum but thought it was also a budget thing too. I just booked our return flight on Southwest (MCO-PHL) for $64 pp. It ended up coming out to about $75 pp with the fees etc. Is this a good deal? I'm thinking it is since I have yet to see anything cheaper. :cool1: I still have to book our departing flight on Aug 30 so I'm hoping to find another deal for that day too. There are 6 of us going and DS is 4 and I'm terrified to fly! Is there someway of making sure at least DH, DS, and myself are all sitting together??? It's DS first flight and I would never allow him to be seated alone but I also want to sit with DH since I'm not so great with the flying thing. Thanks!:goodvibes

$64 from PHL to MCO is *definitely* a good deal! :thumbsup2 I booked at that fare for my DD8 and I this summer so we could drop by one of the parks (we still have 1 day tickets) before driving to north Florida to visit relatives.

There are a lot of great kid's books about riding in an airplane (that explain the noises, or give general info); you might want to get one soon and start preparing your son (and yourself) for the flight.

That's a great price for the one leg! You might want to get the way down now, even if the price isn't great, so it doesn't get sold out. With SW, if the prices go down, you can get the difference between the old & new ticket as a credit towards your next flight.

As for seating - you should be able to pre-board with the small children. I'd check the airline policys for that. But in general, SW has a first-come, first served policy for boarding - you don't get to choose your seats. (Just remember to print your boarding pass 24 hours before your flight. The front desk at the hotel will be able to print that for you before you head home.)

Southwest has changed their pre-board policy. Now you are allowed to pre-board with small children after the A group has been seated.

The book thing is a great idea! I never even thought of that. In fact I'm going to look when I'm out this weekend! Thanks!

That's a terrific deal! I would book your second leg now if possible. If SW releases a lower fare, you can get a credit for the difference.

Thanks for posting this, I did not get 64.00 each way but I did manage to get 105.00 each way from BDL to MCO 08/24-08/31 these same flights were costing me alot more earlier this week specfically coming home the 31:goodvibes

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Thanks so much for posting this here! That is a good price! In fact, I booked when the dates were first released roundtrip from PHL to MCO for the end of August/beginning of September, and I paid closer to $100 each leg even with a 15% ding code.

I was pretty sure I would be able to snag cheaper flights and get a credit, nut I wanted to make certain I had non-stop at times that worked for us. I was able to get cheaper flights earlier than I imagined with all of the gloom and doom airline reports!

There are 7 of us flying for a cost of $1000. Plus, I now have a $400 credit with Southwest - thanks again :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Best way to make certain you have seats all together with Southwest, is to check in online at exactly 24 hours prior to flight. It really is simple (and now that you line up by number rather than just the letter, it is really nice). Pre-boards for kids happen after all of A group has boarded, so you probably could get seats together, but it may be more of a challeng if you have a flight that arrives with passengers staying on the flight. Safest bet is to check in 24 hours prior.

We just went to my parent's house on the Chesapeake for the long weekend, and on the top of the pile of kids books (for my niece & nephew) was this book:

I found it on eBay half.com

I actually only booked the return flight so far. Now I'm looking for the departure flight at a good time. I looked this morning and the only good times are at $124. I'm holding off for right now but going to keep looking everyday. Good Luck!:thumbsup2

$1000 is great for 7 people! I still have to book the departure flight but so far the only good times are @ $124 pp so I'm going to hold out for a little bit but check everyday. I have a feeling I may not be as lucky since we need to fly out on the Sat of Labor Day weekend. I'm also hoping as it gets closer maybe there will be even cheaper flights at least for our return, then I can do the same thing you did and get credit. When are you guys going?
