I'm having a sewing maching crisis!!!!!

When I sew, the bobbin thread is too loose. I was just sewing along and all of a sudden, it started getting loose. Any ideas why? I didn't do anything. I tried fixing the tension, rethreading, checked the needle, blew the dust bunnies out of small spaces, what else can I try? It literally started getting loose in the middle of a seam! I NEED to finish LOTS of stuff!!!!!!

ANYONE, PLEASE, HELP!!!!!!

Disney 4 me:

I do not know if this will help as this is from the EuroPro sewing machine trouble shooting manual:

Lower thread tension can be increased by turning the screw of the bobbin case slightly to the right(clockwise). Turning to the left decreases tension.

hope it helps

Did you check the bobbin? Check the tiny screw - if you hold the thread and hang the bobbin / bobbin case it should hold tight. Have you removed / reinserted the bobbin? Tried another bobbin? When's the last time you changed the needle?

WOW - I go visit family for a week and come back to a new thread!

This morning's accomplishment!

I LOVE it!! Mickey's signature is great!

UPDATE! I just got off the phone with Singer b/c I haven't been able to find out anything about this machine. The lady told me that the machine that would be offered is #1507 and you can see it on their website (www.singerco.com). I have to say that by looking at the website, I am not impressed with the machine. It really doesn't look much better than mine. And, I don't remember the website saying anything about the machine being able to "sew the seam and serge the edge of the material in one operation".

I may just have to go to the store on the day of the sale to check it out.

If anyone still knows anything about it -- please let me know!!

Singer 1507!!!!

I'm not familiar with the machine, but is it a machine they are carrying in the store or is it a 'traveling' sale where the machines are being brought in for a day or two? My Hancock's had one of the 'traveling' sales and I was thinking about buying a machine. Then I searched for more information on online and found lots of negative reports. I ended up with the Brother from WalMart and have been happy.

I think it has something to do with the bobbin because that's the thread that's loose. I can stitch a straight line and then pull the bottom thread completely out.

I turned the screw and tried again, but got the same results.

I removed the bobbin and tried another one. Same results. I don't know when I changed my needle last, so I tried that and it didn't help, either. What does hang the bobbin mean? I'm not sure what to do with that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

OK, Again this is from the troubleshooting manual:

if the thread from the bottom can be pulled... The Upper thread tension is too loose...Normal upper thread tension is between 4-6 (Euro Pro )

have you tried adjusting the upper thread tension?

grr... attempt number two! :headache:

CastleCreations - hooray for a new job w/ higher pay! Better make it a big piggie bank. :cool1: I have huge respect for nurses. It's one of the careers I have swimming in my head but I can't make a decision any way. :scared:

Stephres - time to start earning that fabric missy! :upsidedow My mom once worked at a fabric store... for fabric. Got rid of having to deal w/ that pesky money. I liked her way of thinking.... which is why I work Sunday's at a nursery... but back to you... yea! for money. hope you like subbing.

Tinka Belle - nice work :thumbsup2 Are you done for the semester or do you have more classes to finish? If you have more... good luck! If not, for summer break.

best thing about a new thread... I know exactly where to start... Is there something I'm missing? i just kind of guess where I ended the night before. help? :flower3:

T - Glad your surgery went well. I hope things work out the way you want with your job.

Theresa and Heather Have a great trip! Can't wait to hear all about it! :cool1:

Elisa Congratulations on your new job! :dance3:

I've actually been sewing, I'm in the middle of making Little Einsteins goodie bags for DD's birthday party. Then I can get back to sewing clothing again by the end of the weekend. I picked up a couple of t-shirts and tanks for me to applique for myself. I never make anything for myself.

I am so excited, I had a dental appointment and after we were done with the deep cleaning we scheduled the last of the work I have to have done with my dentist. I will finally be done with my restoration by the end of summer. Most of the work will be done before the end of June.

I'm sitting in bed with a very cuddly littler person so I'm going to go take advantage of her being cuddly, I know soon enough she won't want to cuddle with her mama.

You ladies have a nice night, I'm hoping to take pictures of the goodie bag in the morning. I have a little alone time in the a.m. since it's Home Depot small person project day. DD loves that so much we do Lowe's too.

What kind of machine do you have? My book says if the upper thread tension is too weak the upper thread can be seen on the bottom side of the fabric. The picture shows a sample that looks like you could just pull the bobbin thread right out. So I agree that it probably is your upper thread tension. Try rethreading your machine and then increasing your upper tension if needed. Hope you get it figured out. I know how frustrating it can be to be in the middle of a project and have your machine mess up. I had problems with my machine last year as I was trying to finish customs for our trip. Good Luck!

Thank you so, so much MrsMiller & Astro Oribiter for trying to help me fix my machine.

I have a Singer that has a bunch of different stitch patterns. You turn a dial to select the stitch you want. I had been using a featherstitch and went back to a straight stitch. Well, somewhere along the line, my dial got screwed up. It shows that it's on a straight stitch, but it actually was on a zigzag stitch. But my other selector was set to straight. (Why are there so many different selectors?) I figured that out by going the whole way to the end of my stitch selections and counting how many knob turns it was to the straight stitch. When I was done, the dial was on buttonholing, the stitch beside straight. So if I want to do a zigzag stitch, I have to be on straight. If I want a straight stitch, I have to be on buttonhole, etc....

Now how do you fix THAT?!?! Actually, I don't really care as long as I can sew again!!!!! Whoohooo! Now, on to that top, and dress, and those shorts - 2 pair. How many more days until my trip?

Again, THANK YOU for the help!

Yep, that's what mine was doing. My upper thread was showing on the bottom. Very loopy.

By the way, I have a Singer.

Hello everyone.

I haven't posted or looked here in forever!

Riley is still fighting the kidney infection that started April 6. She has now missed 15 days of school. Today was the last day of her 4th antibiotic, so we'll know for sure in a few days if it is gone.

I really miss my sewing. It's just hard to get anything accomplished with Riley home. She wants to talk to me about everything I do, so I just decided to put everything aside (even housework) till she feels better! Hopefully next week I'll be back to sewing and housework!

I can't wait to go back and see everybody's recent creations.

Oh, wow, poor girl! That's such a long time! I hope she's finally better!

Just dropping in to wish Theresa and Heather a wonderful, safe, super enjoyable trip! We want to hear all about it when you get back!!

Ok, first of all, disclaimer needs to show that I am posting tipsy. Husband left to visit with sister and boyfriend and I am here alone, lol. So please blame any miscommunications on being left along after several glasses of wine; I do have the feeling that TeresaJoy would not approve, sorry!

AND to top it all off...my puppy is sick with KENNEL COUGH...the very thing he JUST got vaccinated for. Poor baby is feverish and coughing and retching. Oh I gave the doggie daycamp place a good talking to! I am just fit to be tied. They have a whole song and dance about protecting our pets and required Bordetella vaccines and blah blah blah...and my poor darling gets sick...I blame the poodle that was following him around with doe eyes!

Poor Beau! And you are so responsible for your canine child too, I can imagine how upset you must be! But just think, if you lived in Florida you would not make as much money, but I would be happy for Scrappy to have a playdate so you wouldn't have to spend as much on doggie day care!

Ok, posting tipsy might not be the best idea, why do I have to backspace so much? :confused3

Thanks! That's probably a smarter idea, working at a fabric store. I just thought with subbing we would be on the same schedule (m and the kids). We'll see if they kill me or I run screaming!

Ok off to watch Top Chef now, good night! ;)

Wow! New thread already!

Teresa and Heather have a wonderful time!

I have been so busy, that I haven't even touched the sewing machine in a long while. Leighanna is asking for a "kitty" shirt. So I might have to dust it off and get busy!

Everyone's things look great!

Hi!

So excited to be on to thread #5!

I'm still working on the bowling shirt pattern - I've been a bit distracted by an impending move (the 3rd in as many years)! I'm trying to cuten up the house and make it look like it is a functional space for the average family. Truth is, it was built in 1900, has little closet space, and the fancy crown moulding is a major dust haven. Tomorrow I have to spread about putrid orange mulch in the name of curb appeal - loooong sigh...

Hugs,

CarlaC

Well, I am another one who cannot wait for the shirt pattern. I seem to be checking YCMT daily to see if it is up! When I got the email this week, I thought the same thing, that the shirt pattern is up, but nope, not yet!

To everyone who is headed to disney this week, have a great time!

Congrats to those with new jobs! Someone has to pay for all that fabric! I always say I need to work at Joann's or somewhere like that! At least I will pay for all that fabric, and maybe I can see what is new & buy it all when it comes in!
