This will be our first time doing pressed pennies and the girls are so excited about it! For those w/ experience, how many mini M&M tubes do I need to have filled w/ quarters and pennies? I'm guessing that each dd will want to make them at each machine we find (and probably my ds, too but I can easily fool him since he really won't know the difference... unless I should save them for him later - thoughts on this???) so I'll need to be prepared for at least 2 (maybe 3) sets at each stop..... Any estimates as to how many quarters/pennies we might go through in 5 full days at the parks??? Thanks in advance for any help!

We did at least one pressed penny at each one we found as well and by the end of our stay, we had over 40 pennies and had spent at least $20. Keep in mind that was also only 1 set... One thing you could do to save money is give each child a tube of quarters and a tube of pennies and have that be their penny petty cash...cause not all of the penny stands have good ones anyways:) Not to mention, you probably don't want to shell out $80 just for pressed pennies!lol

I'm not sure how many quarters the mini m&m containers can hold, we just did a ziplock bag to hold the quarters and pennies. Someone on another thread also said that when they went through the metal detectors at the airport, that the tube of quarters registered as heavy metal material and they got flagged for extra inspection.

And i'm sure you already know this, but we had to learn it the hard way...make sure you have shiny pennies!!! The shinier, the better... we had some dull ones and we couldn't make out the imprints or writing of ANY of them:headache:

When we do the pressed pennies i put 2 quarters(new ) and 1 penny ( new ) stacked in a old film container i got from the recycle center . That way when they want to make a penny we have the right amount without the struggle of 2 containers . Also I do 1 container and when they are gone, there gone.. change is VERY heavy to carry . How we solve the "She got to do one last time thing" is this when we get to a pressed penny machine they take turns one will put the money in the other selects the pic ( asking others what they like first) another cranks the handle last one picks it out of the machine and shows everyone. Keeps everyone happy and i dont have to drag around 5 tubles of quarters and pennys all day yes we have 5 kids !! If they really want to do the pennys and you dont want to lug around the change , give them a fanny pack.. bet ya next time they wont think its such a "great" idea.. Hope this helps !

I just counted the number on the pressed penny location list and there are 435 listed (if I counted correctly)...that's $221.85 if you got them all!!!

WOW!!! That's a lot of pressed penny machines! Are they really all different designs?

This thread reminded me to get some quarters and pennies together for our trip. :goodvibes We have a bunch from prior tourist spots and started our little collection even before we had kids. Not that we can locate many of them at this point. :rotfl2:

There were a few that were listed with similar names...suggesting that they may be the same but that was the exception. That's a lot of pennies! Anyone know how many pennies the books hold? (DD wants to do this for the first time this year)

We save dollar bills and shiny pennies, with only some quaters. I usually ask for change when we check in so I don't have extra weight at the airport. There is a website www.intercot.com/infocentral/coins, that lists all the pressed coin machines. We also bought the pressed penny book that they sell at Disney. One great thing about the book is that all the coins stay together. The other great thing about the book is the pressed quarters don't fit in it, so my kids don't want them.

At the hotel you are staying at they sell pressed penny holders for $6.50. I would bring 2 M&M tubes of quarters and 1 tube of pennies.

Just a little reminder, that some of the press penny machines take more than 2 quarters..

Really? We did all the ones that we saw and they all took 2 quarters and a penny. Where were those ones? There were also the ones that did pressed quarters and those were obviously more.
