I know WDW promoted Gay pride week sometime in June - can anyone tell me when it is this year? I've looked on the gay & lesbian board but couldn't make any sense of it and I really didn't want to dig to deep on that board! Trying to find out so I know how to prepare my family if it is the same week.

I am not gay-bashing but we have young children that will be with us that week on our family vacation. My question is how bad is it that week - are they doing things in public that me & my DH would not do in public? I've heard stories about the these events in places like Atlanta. For the record we have family members that are gay & lesbian - they just aren't affectionate with their partners in front of us with or without small children around.

I don't think it would be like a Pride March, esp being in Disney. I would take my kids that week. I wouldn't take them to the Toronto march though. I've heard it's much different than the Chicago one.

For the record, Gay Days is not a WDW sanctioned event, so they are not "promoting" it. Individual gay and lesbian Disney fans choose to visit the parks during that week - as they do every other week of the year - but it is not a WDW "event."

Don't worry about taking your family during that time. You see less PDA's there than you would at your local mall. We have been during that time over the last few years and don't even notice any difference unless we happen to notice someones t-shirt mentioning the event. The only recommendation I would have is to avoid MK on Saturday at all cost. Starting at that time of the year, Saturdays are very busy because school is out. Go, have fun and drink plenty of water, its HOT!

We were down there once during Gay Days and had a wonderful time. Now that I have kids, I wouldn't worry about taking them at all. I see it as a wonderful opportunity to teach your kids that people come in all types. And kids are more sophisticated than we adults sometimes give them credit for. When my five-year old asked, I told him most ladies marry men and most men marry ladies, but some men prefer to marry men and some ladies prefer to marry ladies and that it's unconstitutional to deny them that right.:goodvibes

Okay, I probably didn't need to add that last part.

Anyway, as the previous poster said, I didn't see anything you wouldn't see anywhere else. Now the humidity, that was another thing altogether.

Good luck. Have a lovely vacation.

So Dh and I went on a trip during Gay days, and now that I have kids I would not have any problem taking them there while it was going on. I didn't see anything inappropriate.

I wouldn't even think twice about taking my boys during this time, nor would my DH. I think it's fanatstic :) Have a blast!!

We've been during Gay Days and had no problem at all. The only issue I had was some of the "off color" T-Shirts. But, then again, you see those at anytime on anyone at anyplace.

Go have fun. The only problem you will encounter will be the heat.

Enjoy!

IMHO: I would choose "gay days" over cheerleader days ANY DAY!!!!

Just keep in mind that Disney DOES NOT promote "gay days"...they can not stop a particular group of folks from visiting the parks at the same time. They do a great job of making sure things are kept appropriate per Disney guidelines i.e. no vulgar or inappropriate t-shirts, etc., as they would do with anyone visiting the parks.

Gay days over cheerleading days anytime! You see way more PDA with the teens and the gay days men just crack me up with their parasols and Sunday best hats! It is all in good fun for them and I have not seen too much that offended me. Now the teenage cheerleaders on the other hand....

And the attendees at Gay Days are MUCH better behaved than many of the attendees at Pop Warner...I've never seen any reports about security having to be called on the Gay Days folks, which is not the case for some of the teen set unfortunately...

I'm glad you added that part. My brother is gay and I haven't had to explain it to the kids yet and wasn't sure how I was going to. So that helped me out!

I dont know how different Gay days are from Cheerleader days. I'm going during cheerleader days in a couple weeks.

But, I think the best possible option would be during Gay Cheerleader days! (ok nevermind, just a thought)

There is a HUGE difference between gay days and cheerleaders being there. The only thing they have in common is that they are big groups.

I beg to differ, they are both groups of people.

You are exaclty right! You are MUCH more likely to see inappropriate, raunchy behavior from the cheerleaders!! I wish the mother's of some of those cheerleaderes could have seen how their girls were behaving! I saw more groping, kissing and fondling by the cheerleaders than I have seen on late night cable :lmao:
