I am mentally exhausted after spending a huge chunk of my day messing with codes and sites for rental cars. GEEZE what a racket!!! :crazy2: Why can't it just be easy?? UUGH! Anyway, I finally found a minivan rate through National EA of $317 from April 30th to May 8th (8 days). Used the Visa code and the $30 e-coupon. Is this decent or should I keep trying? :confused3

If it's the Visa code we used then the tax and insurance is included so make sure that you take into account the taxes at least even if you don't need the insurance of any new rate.
Check Alamo and Nationals last minute rates that come out about 2 weeks prior to your trip, sometimes there's good last minute deals there.
But as you say it is a racket. I spent days last year, even after I reserved 2 vans for Nov. trying to get better rates and I did. I think the rates went from over $650 per van to just over $300 per van for 2 weeks. There was no rhyme nor reason as to went the rates dropped.

The rate is good if you are satisfied with it.
The few I found were right around that price give or take a few dollars.

But I would keep checking and even use the Kayak.com priceline, hotwire etc.

You can also try changing your car pick up and drop off times to half hours and on the hours it could change the price.

I think AMEX and dollar are offering the best minivan deal for the big name rentals as of late for 177 a week + tax and fees. But if you don't have and AMEX card you can't use it.

If you are not stuck on the big names Expedia is offering a van from payless for 226

Also renting off airport saves you that 10 % concession recovery fee. But not every one has that option.

If you use code AX07 with dollar, (have to use an American express card to Pay) For your dates you can get a minivan for $212 with taxes and fees included it comes to a total of $270.:thumbsup2

many have reported success using dollar with KISS2 code ($199 week plus tax/fees for a minivan).

:)

I laughed out loud when I read your post! I am doing the same demented task of trying to get a big suv or minivan for 5 adults for a week in October. There needs to be a web site that does all the code/coupon/email/rate dealy combos so we don't have to! :thumbsup2

Keep trying as it gets closer. We're going 4/18 - 4/25, and our rates just PLUMMETED! Went from $211 including down to $115 including all... (for a fullsize, so don't get too excited for the minivan - sorry) But that's just to demo how the rates can change closer to the date. Good Luck!

There is such a website. Try www.carrentalsavers.com. They have a booking service that finds the best rate using discount codes and coupons. Plus, they rebook if they find a cheaper rate.

Yea, I used carrentalsavers.com on my last car rental and used there booking system and they beat my other reservation. The thing I really liked about them is no credit card was required and I could cancel at any time.

Well, I just "booked" with them. We'll see what they find for me. Hopefully it beats what I've already found.
