Laundry Emergency

My DD washed and dried a load of dark laundry only to find out that she had forgotten to take out her tube of Burt's Bees Lip Balm! Now, she has several pieces of clothing that have grease type stains. What is the best way to try and get them out? In the past, I've used 409 or Dawn on grease stains but neither seem to work very well.

Any suggestions?

Walmart sells a cleaner called Disolve-It in the cleaning (not laundry) aisle. That might work. It's also something like a degreaser

I washed and dried a load before I found out that my daughter had a red crayon in her pocket! I thought all of the clothes were ruined but Goo Be Gone got all of the stains out.

I've used Goo Gone (or Goo Be Gone) for greasy stains. You can buy a spray bottle at Walmart.

I have used baking soda to treat both lipstick and crayons that went into the wash. It got both out, no problem. Check the box for how much to use, but I probably dumped close to a whole (small) box in there along with a little detergent.

FYI our Dollar Tree in Burlington NJ has Goo Gone in the cleaning supplies aisle. Its great on crayon, would think it'd work on chapstick too. Good luck.

I second the Lestoil...it seems harder to find lately in my area, but it is great for laundry stains & stains in general.

Also at our Dollar Tree is a product called Awesome. It is in a spray bottle and it takes out pretty much everything. Best part is that it is only $1!

Good Luck. Laundry stains are the worst. :goodvibes

I have had success using Dawn to get out lip balm accidents, and we've had many! Apply Dawn dish detergent liberally to each spot, rub in, and let it set for a few hours or overnight. Wash in the hottest water possible for your clothing. It usually comes out in one wash but a few times I've had to retreat.

DH works in the oilfield and we always have a can of Rustoleum in the laundry room. You can buy it at automotive supply stores. It smells like oranges sort of and is flammable so you have to be careful. It works wonders on all grease stains. The can is roughly the size of a bottle of cooking spray and is dark green with black. I am at work right now so I am going from memory.
good luck!

Since we are on laundry disasters- my dd had a tube of PAINT!! in her pocket- it appears to be semi washable as it thankfully came off my dryer with a little elbow grease and some fantastic. But the clothes are not coming clean- little red dots on everything. I washed with Oxi clean and that helped a little but any other ideas? it's not greasy stain it's a paint stain!!:scared1:

I think part of the problem is the lip balm not only has grease in it, but wax too. That's why Dawn alone isn't working. You need to find something that will dissolve both.

I usually just use spray and wash or shout.

I'm a graeat one keeping lip chap in my pants!

herc.

I also love Awesome from the Dollar Tree....it works wonderful on red juice stains, grease, you name it.....My DD had a red juice stain all over a shirt and light pink pants. I sprayed Awesome on it and worked on it (scrubbed with a small brush, resprayed) and every single bit came out!!
Zout is also very good. I can only find it at Target though...

Now, if I could find something that works on chocolate milk.....what in the world is in that stuff?????:confused3

It sound weird, but you might want to try a little bit of nail polish remover on a q-tip for this. I have had to do this a few times when DD decides to paint her nails (she's four:sad2:) If the clothes are not coming clean with anything else and are going to be ruined it is worth a chance. I have been very surprised that nail polish remover has worked, but it really has....without taking the color out of clothes...Good Luck!

Yes, Lestoil is the best! A fellow Diser suggested this to me when my daughter got what looked like black grease all over her new WHITE Abercrombie jacket. It worked like a charm!!

Last week I washed a load of all the clothes I have been wearing lately and had a chapstick in the pocket. Nice ... I'll have to try the Goo Gone stuff. Stinks because I usually wear the same 4 outfits or variation of them and every single piece has a stain somewhere obvious on it.
