Northwest Charging for 2nd checked bag

Northwest will started charging for 2nd checked bag starting May 5. Exceptions are frequent flyer passengers and full fare passengers.

I guess that let's me out. Well, my DD leaves in Pensacola and I fly NW to see her usually bring extra stuff for her in the 2nd bag.

I guess I'll have to see if her extra stuff is worth $25. I can still bring a 21" on board, I think.

Coach Class for tickets issued prior to March 29, 2008 for travel any time: Each ticketed passenger is allowed two (2) pieces of checked luggage.

Coach Class for tickets issued on/after March 29, 2008 for travel on/after May 5, 2008: Each ticketed passenger is allowed one (1) piece of checked luggage.

Ugh-I am so sick of NWA and their fares in and out of MSP being so high, and now this!!!! I am finally going to try Sun Country on April 1 to Orlando- $300/ticket, still no bargain compared to what I see others in other cities getting to Orlando but I am anxious to try a different airline after years of NWA.

That's true, but it doesn't bother me at all. I don't think the interline agreements are worth as much as they used to be since so many planes are flying full.

I remember reading about a situation in Denver when there were many passengers stranded due to the weather and canceled flights. (It wasn't all that long ago, but I do not recall exactly when). The other airlines worked the stranded passengers into future flights - took several days to get back to normal. SC sent an empty plane to Denver to pickup their passengers as soon as the weather permitted.

I think a flight on SC is worth more than one on NWA. SC passengers get superb service, hot sandwiches when flying over a meal period, a decent FF program and in MSP, they get to use the HHH terminal. HHH is smaller than Lindbergh, is easier to navigate, has more convenient parking and is staffed with very friendly and organized people.

IMHO, the only advantage NWA has right now is that it participates in RAC, but SC does not.

I have flown Sun Country many times, they are actually my airline of choice! I am only flying NWA this October, because I needed an evening non-stop and they are the only ones who offer that.

From what I can tell from reading that though, my tix were purchased last October, so I am still allowed 2 bags, is that correct?

I love Sun Country for flights to Orlando but because of RAC I prefer NWA or AirTran for return flights. I just now booked Sun Country for outbound and NWA for homebound next Dec/Jan. I was waiting for Sun Country and AirTran to post their Jan. fares, but decided to just do NWA tonight before the luggage rules change tomorrow. I usually only check one bag but like to have the option of checking an extra just in case.

I apologize very much for highjacking this thread. However, I have been looking for and patiently waiting for an answer to my question.

Does anybody know when Suncountry might release their January 2009 dates?

We are going to be driving to MSP from Thunder Bay in order to save money. $300 return is a big bargain compared to what we would pay to from fly from home! I could book with NWA right now, but I think that Sun Country would be a better choice for our family for many reasons.

I could have booked with NWA a month ago when the fares were still a bit lower, but we were planning on driving to WDW. Our plans changed slightly and now we are going to fly.

That's how I read it too...I just decided to buy tonight because I have been thinking about buying next week...but hopefully I caught it in time before the 3/29 cut off...technically bought it on 3/28 at 1105pm (CDT)....

Guess I'll find out!

I called NWA and was told that if I purchased by 11:59 pm on Mar. 28, the 2 checked bags rule would still apply.
