How do you pack a case of water in a suitcase to be checked?

For anyone who has put a case of water in your checked bag how do you pack it? Do you take it out of the case and wrap them in something or do you wrap the case in something? Has anyone had them break? I was thinking of putting a case in a small suitcase and checking the bag. We are not taking a lot of luggage, just checking two bags if we take the water or one if not.

I was going to put snacks and breakfast food in our other bag so I don't want to order just a case of water to be delivered. I don't have anything else that I need to order.

I understand that you can have it shipped from Staples with no shipping cost. It may be worth looking into.

Garden Grocer or some other grocery delivery service may work. Then you won't have to pack snacks or water.

Very soon, many airlines will be starting to charge $25 for a second checked bag for each passenger (the first checked bag is "free), so it's probably not going to be worth it to bring water this way. I'd find another way to do it (like Staples, as someone else mentioned).

Here's what I do instead, though: Bring one water bottle per person, then refill it with free ice water from CS restaurants. The water is cold, it's free, and you don't have to lug around multiple bottles of water each day.

We got married in Aruba 3 years ago and part of the welcome gift for guests was personalized water bottles - cases of 'em. I originally packed them in regular suitcases with other "stuff", but the suitcases were way too heavy - so at the airport we had to unpack the water bottles & they went down the conveyor belt as is, in their own packaging with a sticker - no problems.... in this case it was worth having the water be the "2nd checked bag" because of the personalization we couldn't buy on site (hindsite = ship to hotel!!), but in any other instance I'd say it's better off to buy once there.

I'm thinking of doing what you are doing, too, for the same reasons. There isn't anything else we need besides the water to justify the delivery cost of garden grocer, wegoshop, etc., unless there's a place with free shipping and no minimum, but as we're not going for several months, I don't know what free shipping deals will be available then. (I've heard people mention Costco and Staples.)

I'm thinking if nothing surfaces a week or so before our trip I'll buy the sturdiestly (is that a word?) wrapped case and reinforce it with clear mailing tape and check it like that, with my hotel info taped to it. It will be clearly visible that it's a case of water--won't be in a suitcase. I"ve posted similar quetion before and received a few replies reminding me to watch out for the water leaking through my suitcase onto others' luggage. I don't think
i'd be able to fill the suit case for the way home (not even with souvenirs) plus I think it might ship better if it's clearly visable as water.

We ordered water from Garden Grocer... along with other items. It was perfect. I don't think we had any water left over. We did have a few apples and oranges, and we just took them home on the plane with us... no problem.

I think STaples has free delivery. Will you have a car, it would be cheaper to run into a grocery store.

I know Staples was free last year when I went, but then two months later when I tried it again, Staples started giving free shipping only with a $50 order.

When I looked at the website last week, it didn't show the shipping so I'm not sure what the deal is anymore. Check it out early so you won't be surprised two weeks before you go.

I believe Costco is free shipping even with a $7 order.

Having the water there was great. We didn't drink all 24 bottles, but saved a lot of money with the 12 we did drink!

There are 4 of us. We each bring one suitcase. I put 3 water bottles in a gallon size ziplock. I put either 3 or 6 bottles in each suitcase and end up with a half a case up to a case. Easy and have never had a problem. We also pack a ton of food and brind fruit in our carryon.

I don't even know if we are flying or driving this year but if we fly I'm going to put a case of water in a small suitcase with a couple of beach towels. My DH has pallet wrap at work and we are going to wrap that water to within an inch of it's life.

I've packed large bottles to take to the carribean. We put packing tape around the bottle top and then we double bagged the bottles. No trouble at all. I did call the airline to ask about it the first time and they said it would be perfectly fine.

To the OP - even if Staples charges, say, $7 to deliver two cases of water - that's about $20 max, for a cost of forty-one cents per bottle. That price is more than 75% lesst that what Disney charges for standard bottled water. And it's a lot more reasonable than hauling your own water.
