Military tickets

My *sister* is retired navy, and has gone to WDW with my family before. She has secured tickets for us through the "Stars and Stripes" booth at Shades of Green. We are going again in October, but she unfortunately can't go this time. According to Shades of Green website, she can order the tickets for us ahead of time. My question is one of ethics...will they check at the gate, and potentially deny us entrance if she is not with us?

I've heard they do check military ID at the gate if you buy the military priced tickets - so she would need to be there. I'm not sure if they actually do check all the time, but that's what I've heard from friends.

Stupid question but how much are the tickets for the military folks? My brother-in-law is in the military. Since we own DVC we have thought about having them come stay with us "free" but they would have to get their own tickets - however would be nice to know how much so I can kind of give them a ball park figure.

Your sister can purchase tickets for you at shades of green or a military base close to where she lives. Any tickets from these places can be purchased for friends and families. Disney does not check you for military ID. I have been purchasing tickets for over 10 years from both of these places and have never had a problems. we went last January,my hubby is retired Navy and disney didn't check our military ID. The tickets looked the same as the regular Disney Tickets. Hope this helped

jmho, unless retired or active military not eligible to purchase (that would be us lol, DH served in Vietnam several tours, didn't retire), it effectively cuts out many military veterans...which i understand as they have to draw the line somewhere.

It sure seems odd that it's okay to gift them to friends, especially if the purchaser won't be on the trip ; yet exclude those who did serve.

It is too bad that vets can't have at least some benefits ie purchasing of tickets unless they retired from the military but I suppose the previous poster is right they have to set a limit somewhere. From a soldiers wife, thanks to all who have honorably served regardless of retirement status!

We have purchase tickets from our MWR and shades of green. for other families and have not been their, they did not have a problem.

OK, back to topic...

When we purchased ours last year, my mom was with us, and no one checked anything. We are currently FL residents and bought annual passes at the FL resident price. Shades only provides a voucher for this and THAT IS checked at guest services to verify residency before ever receiving the actual ticket. ANYWAY, my mom was never checked anywhere as she was given her ticket at time of purchase.

I don't think you can purchase them through the mail.

Shades of Green Attaction Ticket Sales Office is located on the lobby level and is open daily. A Military Identification Card or Department of Defense Identification Card must be presented at time of purchase.

Once the tickets are purchased no ones checks ID's.

OT - jik anyone is interested in cruising, (unlike DCL) both Carnival & NCL offer GREAT military rates to those who can provide a DD214 and i believe 4 years of service

I'm not sure where you're getting the info that your sister can order the tickets from SOG ahead of time. According to the FAQ on the SOG website, tickets cannot be ordered in advance, because they have to check military ID in order to purchase. Also, you would need a military or DOD ID to enter the property to get the tickets. Are you sure she isn't getting them at her base? If that is the case, you won't have any problems with Disney CMs checking for military ID at park entrances.

Off topic for a minute. Where can I get info on the cruises?

either call carnival or NCL or to get just a general idea of rates & availability (pre tax $ amount); you can sign up @ vacationstogo (will get emails, etc.) and then you can check them online to your heart's content without speaking directly to cruiselines...who don't post the rates there.
