Is there a Las Vegas budget board? I tried to do a search, but nothing came up.

DH wants to go to Vegas and wants me to find a place to stay.

The Plaza on Freemont street has some pretty reasonable rates. Around $60 per night. If you haven't been to Vegas before, may I recommend the book "Vegas for Dummies". I bought it when my husband went in 2006. It gives you some great budget tips! There is a restaurant at the casino called Ellis Island Casino. They have a steak dinner for $4.95. It comes with a HUGE steak, baked potato, and veggie of the day. It is amazingly delicious! This item isn't on the menu. You have to know about it before hand to order it!

For hotel deals I go to FatWallet. In the forums there is a travel section that lists codes for hotels. I seem to have the best luck there. I always book direct with the hotel and make sure it can be cancelled if a better deal comes along. Good luck on your search - To me that is the fun part.

"Vegas" and "Budget" is an oxymoron in my family.

I loooove the Bellagio!!!! and I looooveto gamble and see the shows. So budget is pretty much out the window. And don't forget about steak dinners at some of the best steak houses in the country.

This is (so far) the first year that I am not going to LV. LV Advisor has great message boards. There is also OpenVegas.com (used to be Las Vegas Talk a few years back). I don't know of any budget boards, but some of them have coupon trading and 'frugal' tips, etc.

If it's your first time going I would recommend staying on the Strip rather than anywhere else, even though it does cost more.

I also like cheapo vegas, but find some of their info isn't always current.

...am hoping to maybe squeeze in a four day weekend at some point this year. I would have made it, too, if not for my current WDW obsession ::sigh::

I found the trip advisor las vegas forum to be extremely active and helpful when I was planning my trip last year. They gave me the #1 Las Vegas budget tip...use this calendar to determine conventions...and then plan to go when the big ones AREN'T happening, LOL! http://www.pcap.com/lvconv.htm

For example, we were initially planning to go in early January but the dates I was querying were bringing back sky high hotel rates (crazy high)...when I checked on the convention calendar, I realized it was because of the Consumer Electronic Show, bringing in 150K+ people into town, so of course that was driving up the hotel rates. We ended up changing our days to the week after the CES convention and hotel room rates were dirt cheap. We stayed offstrip at the Orleans for $25/night and loved it! (full disclosure - we're not gamblers, we were using Vegas as a cheap place to stay while day tripping to Death Valley, Grand Canyon, and the Hoover Dam, so I can't attest to the Orlean's gambling happenings, LOL, but the hotel rooms were fantastic - HUGE and well appointed with granite counters and a nice sitting area...and for $25/night, I almost felt guilty about not gambling...almost!!) Anyway, definitely check out the calendar if your dates have any flexibility. Good luck!!

Been to Vegas many times, ask any questions you might have. For a reasonable hotel I would totally recommend Harrahs, center strip, monorail hotel, clean, reasonable rooms. Personally I would not recommend staying off the strip if your not familar with the area, everything your going to want to see is on the strip, so you'll spend more $$ on cabs back and forth.

re: the convention calander. Anything you see that has 100K or more is definitely not the time to go. We've also learned to avoid March (NCAA final 4 weekend), Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby, or big fight weekends. Every place is pretty much mobbed for big big sporting events. Also, in December they have some big Rodeo thing that gets very crowded.

DH and I along with 3 other couples are trying to plan a 4-day trip in August. Discounted rates are out through July for most hotels on the strip. If you go to the hotels main website you can sign up for email alerts. I don't know much about Vegas....so I am going to keep an eye on this thread also! Thanks!

One thing to keep in mind is that if you're planning to gamble at all you might want to book your hotel directly rather than with a package...they can't comp you your room or any part of it if you purchased as part of a package. You can still be comped meals, etc. Just something to think about.

We are just back from Vegas too. Planet Holloywood is in a good location. We stayed in a timeshare condo. (Marriott Grand) right across the street from Planet Hollywood. Marriott is great for more than 2 couples and they rent it out for less than $100 night. I would have to agree to stay on the strip, otherwise you spend a lot of your time going back and forth. Yeah, that's a great point.

We don't gamble at all. Our plan is sky dive, see the dessert, check out the cheesy sites and sleep! LOL - we are getting 3 nights away from the kiddos!

We stayed at the Luxor ($80/night) and it was fine, but I would stay somewhere else next time. Rooms were clean, housekeeping was great, but we thought that some of the other resorts had more to offer. Aside from gambling, there was very little shopping or interesting places to eat (aside from the Cathouse, which was closed)...

We loved walking through NYNY and would definitely stay there next time...lots of different places to eat. We had a best steak ever at Gallagher's (very pricey-be prepared!) and the best raspberry margarita at Gonzolez y Gonzolez! The best buffet was at the Bellagio, which at lunch, was cheaper than any Disney buffet! I would definitely recommend that one!

Take the time to go through the Forum Shoppes at Ceasar's...it was fun to look through all the high-end designer shops. Planet Hollywood has great "regular people" shopping.

Be prepared to walk!!! Take comfortable shoes for touring during the day and save those fancy heels for your night out! You will do a ton of walking...We did buy a pass on the Deuce ($5 for a 24 hour period) one day and it was worth it. There were tons of stops all up and down the Strip. We were surprised at how pedestrian-friendly that Vegas was...we loved the catwalks over traffic and the outdoor escalators.

We had SO much fun!!! Have a great time!!!

I was just there. Stayed at the Plaza for 2 nights and then the MGM Grand for three nights. The rooms are really expensive on Friday and Saturdays but really reasonable Sun - Thurs.
