Meaning, do you bring a little cash and the rest credit/debit. I dont plan on bringing our checkbooks.
I highly recommend Disney gift cards to use as cash! We used them for every purchase at Disney from all of our food and snacks/water/soda to all souviners! Worked like a charm! You get a receipt after every use with the remaining balance. I had one credit card as back-up and a little bit of cash for tips, etc, but rarely used either. (we stayed onsite)
I bought a couple Disney gift cards at the Disney store at the mall and added money to them every payday. I'm using the same gift cards this year and adding money for our next trip!
If you are staying at a Disney owned-and-operated resort, you can set up a room charge when you check in at your resort. This is just incredibly convenient.
You back up the room charge with a credit card, debit card, cash, travelers checks, even Disney Dollars. You room key serves as your room charge card. One convenience beyond not having to carry cash is that you won't have 87 separate little charges on your credit/debit card, but rather one big single charge at the end of your trip. If you want an itemized accounting of your spending, you can request a print-out at your resort at any time.
EVERY PLACE in the theme parks and resorts accepts room charge. There may be exceptions for non-Disney owned contractors (such as when the Food and Wine Festival is going on). Some places in Downtown Disney take room charge and some don't.
Incredibly convenient. I love having a cashless week when I carry around one single card that does all of my paying for me.
As I wrote in the post you quoted, your room key serves as your room charge card. It's nothing to purchase. You set up the account with a credit/debit card or cash, etc. When you reach your spending limit or at about 3:00 a.m. on your check-out date (whichever comes first), Disney charges your credit/debit card. If you put down a cash deposit and didn't charge up to that amount, you will get a refund when you check-out.Do you purchase the room charge card when you check in? This is a great idea.

My memory respectfully but very strongly disagrees with your memory. From memory, all the snack carts in the parks are cash only, so you need a small ammount of cash for sodas, hotdogs etc.
