This is DH's first time to WDW. Also he's never truly been on a vacation before. a vacation to him before consisted of a night at the beach. and i'm super excited since this is a big deal for me and i'm much into vacations.
my dh asked me today why we need to get to the park when it opens. he thought we would be getting to the park at noon. to me thats insane. when i always came with my family we would make sure we were there when the park opened. there is just so much to see and do at MK i want to be able to see a lot and relax and enjoy the day and not feel like i only get a couple hours there.
since he's never been he says he's going to look to me as to what to do/where to go. since he's never been he just doesn't know what to expect. i just want to get him excited about it but he just has no clue.
anyone else's DH like this? lol! :)

See if from his point of view: he's expecting Mickey and Minnie and nothing but princesses.

Start with the menus. Are you on the DDP? Either way, plan on at least one or two TS meals. Go to www.allears.com and take a look at the menus, and offer him some choices-- would he prefer the steaks at Le Cellier or the seafood at the Coral Reef? How about the luau at the Poly?? or would Boma be a better choice, or the Biergarten?

HAve you booked a resort? Decide on your price range, and look at the fact sheets at allears. Each comes with a slide show-- ask him to help you decide between your top two choices.

I'm not sure how to really prepare someone for the parks, but I bet I've gotten you started :)

My DH sort of figured out what he's in for when I...

Started hanging at the DisBoards a little too often
Saw the huge folder of info
Started bugging him 6 months ago about requesting vacation days from work
Started making matching t-shirts
Came home from the library with every Disney book they had
Saw the printed-out planner I made at the UG website (he didn't even read it, just the fact that I made one was enough)
Forced him to watch attraction videos on YouTube

At that point he gave up, realized who was in charge, :lmao: and is now just along for the ride. He thinks I've gone way way over the edge. He should know that I'm always right, I always am in the end, you'd think he would have figured that out by now.

We are dealing with the same thing with my Dad right now. I told him that he will understand why to get up early when he does it the first time. Think back to your first trip. What did you think? Remeber believing that the characters roamed around the park and interacted with you (with no hour long lines). Remember expecting to not ahve to worry about long lines or fastpasses? I know we did, however the reality of it is that it takes a certain ammount of personal adaptation to achieve these things.

Also, what we did with my father is watch the DVD and it prompted him to ask questions about each attraction. "Did you do/see this?" "What is it like?". This helped him to see the the excitement that we had for DW and some of it appeared to rub off.

My husband (and boys') first trip will be this September. I am SO excited. My husband isn't, so much...he says he doesn't see what the big deal is. All I know is he better change his tune..people that don't "get" Disney or don't "like" it...ANNOY me! LOL

I am going to get some guidebooks and leave them in the bathroom...that's how I got him interested in my pregnancies!! ROFL

Wait a minute. ...are you saying we have to wake up at like 7 am and be there by 8 am?

OMG we're in trouble...first trip is the end of May!

:lmao: This is to funny!

I pull out maps, ask DH opinion. I have a binder folder and he saw me making spreadsheets.

lol! i think you're my twin. i also have been on the disboards a lot, came home from the library with tons of books, made Word documents of plans and made a folder of all the informaiton. now i just have to get him to watch the travel channel episode that i recorded. he does realize i'm in charge and pretty much wants me to do all the planning. which is fine becuase i'm so excited and thats half the fun! :)

Yes ditto this and BeckyScott! We just came back on the 12th. Very often I heard DH say, "Wow, its great that we got in before everyone else because we had an early breakfast." Or "fastpasses are great." It didn't take him long while we were there that all of my planning was for a reason and now he's been making a DVD of our whole trip to send to friends and family. I guess he had a good time.

Yeah and you know the irony of the whole thing is, when we're there, he's probably going to think it's all just coincidental.

The entire thing is planned to make it look like it isn't planned, if you KWIM. A synchronized ballet.

We went last September for the first time with our son & daughter> Me 7 the kids planned for months (my husband complained for months)..."I can't beleave we are spending all this money to go and spend a week in a stupid amusment park".....By day 2 he was saying "when we come back......". We got home and he was talking to our family and they said "and after all that complaining, you did have fun!. Do you know he came home and thought I was saying bad things about him.... . The next day when he got home from work I got flowers (the people at work said the same thing as our family) and a Thank you card :rotfl:
Now we are going back in September again  with no camplaining before:thumbsup2
