My family of 5 stayed at the Poly last year and loved it, but I was wondering about more budget friendly ideas for 5 people. We stayed at ASMo when we were 4 and liked it, but now that I have to get 2 rooms, I'm not sure it's so budget friendly. What do some of you families of 5 do that works out well?

It depends on how old your kids are because
a family of 5 can stay at POR (there is a trundle bed for a younger/smaller kid).
The beds are Full size and that could be a problem for some people.
POR is a very Family oriented resort and it is beautiful.
I would do a price comparison and see what the total is.
You could also look into renting points from a DVC member for a 1 or 2 bedroom suite
but I think the price will still be up there--it doesn't hurt to
do a price check and see how much it will cost.

The All Star resorts are way too small. (We have 5 also). Last time, we stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Kissimmee when it was new. It was so much larger than the All Star resorts (and nicer too). We drove to Magic Kingdom and got there way faster than we would have by taking the AS buses. (honest). They provide a free continental breakfast that was good.

This year, we are trying the Marriott Grande Vista resort 1bdr suite w/full kitchen. It is a longer drive, but looks very nice.

How old are your children? Under 3 doesn't count towards room occupancy.

Port Orleans Riverside w/trundle
2 rooms at a Value Resort
All-Star Music Suite
Fort Wilderness Cabin
Deluxe, in a room for 5

Other options are most costly.

If you have AAA, you can receive a discount.

My kids are 5, 10, & 13. I think the POR trudle thing is too small for us. I guess we are "stuck" with the deluxe rooms with 2 queens and a day bed. This probably makes the most sense, although it is not easy on your wallet.

We are also a family of 5. This year we are going to try the ASMu family suite. Price wise it was pretty good... $3165 for base tickets & dining plan ( my youngest is 1, so he's still free). It has a queen bed in 1 room & a pull out sleeper sofa (double bed) & 2 twin pull out chairs in the other room, 3 tvs... it looks like a pretty good size. We'll have to see. Last year we stayed @ ASMo in 1 room & it was extremely small!!! So hopefully this will be better.

Can I ask how long you are staying and when? I don't even have a trip planned yet, but I'm just poking around hoping to start planning soon! When I approach DH about it I'd like to have a good deal to present to him. He is not as big a Disney fan as I am. He did however really enjoy the Poly last year.

Family Suite info:

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Here is the layout of the Family Suites:

They:

-Sleep up to 6 (plus one child under age 3 in a Pak-n-Play crib)
-Studio amenities and separate sleeping areas giving more privacy than a standard room.
-Queen bed, full-size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman & chair sleepers (4 separate sleepers)
-Private master bedroom and family room have 27” flat CRT TV and high speed Internet access.
-Kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator (4.3 cu. ft) and coffee pot
-Two-full bathrooms
