Solo at POFQ...

I will be staying at this resort for the first time and I am wondering how other solos have felt there? As a woman, do you think I should request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor for some hint of extra safety? I always wonder if ground floor rooms are less secure?

On my last solo trip I stayed at POP and ended up with a 2nd floor room. Maybe I'm getting more leery the older I get (haha), but I don't recall even thinking about this 2 years ago when I last solo'ed. For the record, I never felt uneasy in WDW alone. But maybe since I have never stayed in this particular resort before, I'm a little wary?

TIA!

I have stayed at POR, but I wasn't alone. Honestly though I think I would probably feel safer being on the first floor. I'm from NYC and the most dangerous place a woman can go by herself is an empty stair way, which I know from staying at POR the stairways often are. I think WDW is one of the safest places a woman can be by herself, but it's always good to be cautious! :hippie:

Me and DD16 stayed by ourselves at POFQ in September and we were on the 2nd floor.. I felt perfectly safe.. If I were by myself though I would probably feel safer on the first floor just as previous poster said, because then there isnt any hallways, stairways to worry about..

I walked around FQ alone quite a bit last spring, even after dark. Never felt a bit nervous.

I think the small resort felt safer than something more spread out. You were always near the main building, or the pool, or someplace populated.

Have a wonderful stay!!

Thanks! My BF also suggested that I put a chair against the door when I'm in the room for "advance" warning... but that would just give me time to cower under the covers

But good advice from all - I usually try to stay aware of my surroundings :)

I stayed solo at POFQ in Dec, and felt completely safe. I was on the third floor, which a preferred to the ground floor I had on my last solo trip at POR.

POFQ is one of the best places for solos, since it isn't super spread out like the other moderates. I stayed at POFQ twice as a solo, once on the ground floor and once on the 3rd floor. At moderates and values, ground floor doesn't bother me too much, but I do perfer to be up at least on the 2nd floor, more because there is less foot traffic and less people glancing through your curtains!

But at deluxe resorts like Wilderness Lodge, it bothers me greatly to have a ground floor room with a patio. I just don't feel secure, and I feel like I am on display if I use my patio as people walk by 2 feet away. And of course, the 2 times I was at WL they gave me ground floor rooms . The second time, I threw a fit at check-in, and got a balcony. Loved it!

I've never been there. But I would think you would want a building close to the bus stop &/or the restaurants, so there would always be people around. The thought of walking down a dark path alone might give me the willies.

Once you're in your room, lock the doors, close the blinds securely and you're good. I agree with whoever it was who said that dark staircases are not your friend, so a ground floor room probably makes the most sense.

If being alone at night really frightens you, invest in a good whistle and keep it on your night table.

I agree. There is a buliding (#5 maybe?) that has some rooms on the corner bottom floor that are literally steps away from the food court's back entrance. That is the area I thought of immediately when I read this thread. I would think if you needed to you could always run out your door, through the food court, to the lobby and there should always be people in the lobby right? (even at 3 am? wouldn't there be a few people working there?).

I stayed at POFQ for the first time last september (with a big group) and loved it.. I don't imagine that I would feel scared being alone there at all.. hopefully you feel the same way. I think as one other poster said ... because of it's small size it just feels a bit more secure.

good luck and have a great time! I think it's so cool that you travel solo! I may have to end up doing that since I'm into disney way more than my hubby! ;)

I stayed at POFQ in Dec 06 solo for a couple of days before my sisters arrived and I transferred to WL - I LOVED POFQ! Not once did I feel uneasy walking around the resort night or day. My room was on the third floor, I never have stayed in a ground floor room, that is just my personal preference. Like others have said just be aware, have your smarts about you when riding the elevators late, etc.

Terrific info - thanks! And I see that we're neighbors! I live in the Ithaca area :) If you ever have the chance to go solo, I highly recommend it. Aside from my wariness in this thread, I am very excited for my 2nd solo trip!

oh, I love Ithaca! I try to visit there a lot in the warmer months and my hubby and I love going to to farmers market. If you don't mind.. I might PM you about a few things... if you have anymore questions about POFQ or anything at all please feel free to ask me!

btw, when you look at the map that the other poster put up... you can see building 5, by the laundry rooms is where I'm talking about. It looks further away from the food court in the map than it really is in real life.. of course.. if you got a room in building 4 on the right hand side (looking at the map) you'd also be very close to the food court. I'm sure if you called the resort itself a few days or a week before your arrival and requested a room close to the food court/lobby they could help you out! You're going to have a great time! :dance3:
