Question about air...

Okay so I heard that the air quality in LA area is poor or "Smogy". This only concerns me because of DS&, he has asthma and I want to know if we may have some issues with him.

Where would be the best place to go if he has an attack that his fast acting inhalers are not helping?

And is February even a bad smog month?

There is one first aid per park.

DL, its by the Corn Dog Stand/Photopass center.

DCA, its by the Pacific Wharf area, more specific on the right hand side of the Tortilla factory.

If he is unmoveable, you can go to a store and have them call First Aid and they will respond quickly and if its bad, they usually will have EMTs standing by the closest gate ready to go if its really needed.

BTW - Feb isn't usually a bad month. Is best if it has been windy, but is usually better than the more stagnant Summer months. Have fun on your trip!

The first aid center is great!

I found a bleeding cut on my thumb, no idea where it came from, but went to the first aid station asking for a band-aid. They asked if I wanted to have someone look at it, and I said I didn't think it was necessary (it looked like a deep papercut), so they handed over two sets of bandaids, antiseptic ointment samples and alcohol wipes! (One for now, one so that I could change the dressing later.)

And I'm pretty sure the person manning the desk area is a nurse; he sounded knowledgeable and was so kind, and I'm pretty sure his name tag specified he was an RN or LPN.

DL First Aid is ever so nice.. Friendly staff, cool comfy building if you need to rest. I developed a really bad itchy rash after getting soaked on GRR. Popped into first aid and they set me up with calamine lotion (pink or clear my choice), gloves and an exam room to apply it privately.

They are staffed with RNs with advanced life support training. (Read a job desciption for it once upon a time when I was an LPN with big dreams of working for Disney

They have helped deliver babies inside the park, assisted at accidents, and are available whenever you need them during park hours.

As for hospital choices in the area.. just in case... I know there is a well regarded children's hospital nearby.

LA's air is more or less terrible year round.

Fortunately Disneyland is not in LA. It's in Anaheim which is located in Orange County which has pretty decent air quality during the Winter months.

If you're going in February, I wouldn't worry about Orange County's typically good Winter air.

That being said, there is still the chance for those infamous Santa Ana Winds showing up and kicking up a lot of dirt. Most of Orange County's freeway construction in the area has been completed so there is not a lot of junk to be kicked around. As long as there isn't a wildfire you should have a very nice trip.

Your son's asthma will not be a factor in February.

Just to clarify again. Disneyland is not in or around Los Angeles. You're closer to the ocean than you are to LA which means you get to enjoy the benefits of cleaner air. You'll definitely see smog when you look towards the mountains but that's just the smog from the inland empire which doesn't typically reach central Orange County. If you want to enjoy that LA smog, it's about 25 miles North.

Did I mention that Disneyland is not in Los Angeles?

If it has been raining which I think it was the air quality does clean-up. Looks like there is more rain to come so you should be ok.

I live here, and we all call it the OC! Thats what it was called BEFORE the show- they were so original in choosing a name.

That's pretty much my dream job too!! I want to be a nurse, but a nurse for Disneyland would be the best!!

My daughter has moderate asthma and didn't need her rescue meds the entire trip. We were there in November so all the smoke from the fires weren't a bother. The air was fine and even the cigarette smokers in the parks were hard to find.
