I get woozy on a regular swing and when I watch rides like the teacup- not that I am going to attempt the teacup but I would like to be able to do many of the rides and keep my eyes open when I am walking- lol- any suggestions?

Thanks, Jen

I have to take dramamine to ride-guess this happens as you get old. There is a less drowsy formula on the market as well as chewable ones in case you don't have water with you. IF you are not sure how drowsy you will get, take one and see how you feel. To me a little drowsy is worth the not feeling green and getting on anything your kids want!:surfweb:

Pressure point bracelets, they work wonders.

I get sick on Dumbo and the Carousel, so I stay far away from those two. Ironically I can ride the Orange Mission Space and RNR multiple times in a row with no problems, go figure.

I SWEAR by Bonine. :thumbsup2 I will never take Dramamine again!!! For some reason, even the non drowsy Dramamine knocks me out and makes me a grumpo. But not Bonine!!!!!!

My parents used the patches on various boat trips, and reported no problems and they work great! Good luck.:thumbsup2

I used to swear by dramamine, until I tried a motion sickness bracelet. The bracelets work great for us, only had to be purchased once, and we are not depending on meds :thumbsup2

Thanks for your responses-
Waterm- do you know if they had any side effects- going on or coming off them- If I use them I will be on for 17 consecutive days- I would assume their cruises were a week or so- I wonder if they had any concerns the longer they were on them- do you remember them saying?

Thanks, |Jen

I take this stuff called Bromine and I haven't gotten sick yet. I take it for the plane and some rides. :)

my MIL used the patches when she went on a cruise. she said they worked really well and she felt great. i think they were a prescription (?)

i know OP was interested for herself, but just as a side note for anyone else... young children are not supposed to take the non-drowsy medications.

my two younger children have been carsick since they were infants and their doctors and i have not been able to find anything that works. (we'll use dramamine on long car trips but they pass out and are drooling within an hour... i also wouldnt give them drugs just to go to the grocery store, so we just have several trash cans in the car) ;) i just bought the bracelets today, so i guess we're finally going to try them. i just assumed that they wouldnt actually work, but have heard some positive reviews recently. since they are so sensitive i'm a little worried about them being able to ride anything during our trip. hopefully these will work.

There was a discussion on the cruise threads about this the other day....apparently there IS now a childen's formula of non- drowsy bonine (for under age 12). Have not personally looked yet, though.

Is bonine for adults a prescription and does anyone know if you can get it in Canada

Thanks,Jen

I use Bonine for motion sickness. I like that it doesn't make me sleepy.

Bonine is over the counter. I purchase mine at Walmart for a few dollars.

that would be great. i was just in walmart yesterday and they didnt even have any regular dramamine in chewables. i will have to look for this at our pharmacy. thanks.

When I was pregnant with DD I was Nauseous ALL the time(morning sickness for 18 weeks:scared1: ) A sales girl at CVS told me about the motion sickness bracelets. The ones they have are not very attractive and look like sweat bands BUT it was winter and I wore long sleeves..they are AWESOME. I wish someone told me about them sooner. I will have to get them for the trip.
I also get sick on a kids swing. this is only since having my DD (4 years ago)

Some of those over-the-counter meds have side effects for people like me -- especially for people who have glaucoma.

One of the best things that I have found out for myself -- and quite natural to boot -- is Ginger. You can find ginger capsules at most health food stores or on the internet. Take ginger and your motion sickness may well be a thing of the past.

And the nicest thing about it is there are no apparent side effects, except for the occasional ginger burp. :)

I too get VERY sick just looking at things moving:sick:
I had my Dr. prescribe the patch for me. I have used Dramamine and I tend to get very sleepy. I used the patch for a weekend to see how I would react (would hate to find out it doesn't work while I am down there:eek: ) The only side affect I had was the dry mouth. I do have the Bonine, and I also picked up the children's Bonine for my son.
I have also heard form the great people on this board about ginger, so I bought a bottle of ginger pills just in case:thumbsup2
I asked the pharmacist if these meds could be taken together, he said yes, it just might make me tired.
Anything is better than getting sick. It knocks me out for hours.:scared:
I haven't used the bracelet, I have heard there are 2 different kinds and the more expensive sea band is the better of the two. Kinda costly, but if it works and you need motion relief alot, it may be worth it.

Good luck and hope you have a good time:cool1: :cool1:

I get really bad motion sickness and finally
purchase a Relief Motion Sickness band (the ones pilots use=
they are also given to Cruise line Workers so that they can
keep working.)
I had found out about this on the Cruise ship board.
Relief Bands are not the cheap ones that look like a wrist band-
they look like a wrist watch.
This is THE BEST investment that I have ever made--
it really works with no side effects at all.
I was so impressed by how good it worked for me that I
bought one for my DH and DS so that they can have there
own. Both my DH and DS cannot use some over the counter meds because of
they take precription meds and could interfer with the medication.
My Sister used mine for a boat trip and then purchased her own--
she get drowsy using the Non-drowsy Bonine.
I got all of mine on Ebay--I just kept checking until a seller would put one
up for a buy now and snatched all 3 bracelets.
These will keep us all Motion Sickness free for many years to come.

All Disney/Florida/ride on a plane family vacations were headed to an abrupt end as my hubby gets horrid motion sickness. On the advise of our Doc he now uses the Sea-bands, ginger-snaps (found in the healthfood store in a small tin) and Cocculus 30X Also found in the health food store. Now he goes on the plane, rides almost all the rides and is human at the end of vacation. The hardest rides for him now are the simulator rides.. even still he will ride them once but doesn't push it by repeat rides.

The Cocculus 30X is a "natural remidy" that you disolve under the tongue. His only side effect... no dizzy/throwing up/ headache grumpy hubby! :rotfl:

He doesn't know which thing helps him and he isn't willing to try one at a time to find out...

Good luck!
