UGH! I paid all my bills on January 2nd including a credit card that only has a $1000 limit. I did this online and must have neglected to click the last SUBMIT for that payment. I didn't realize until they called today. So my account balance that was at $952.00 when I got my bill last month has magically gone to $1062.00. They added the finance charge(which I planned for), then a late payment fee of $40, which sent me overlimit, so they added an overlimit fee of $40. I called to ask if they could remove the fees as a one-time courtesy, and of course I got someone overseas that I couldn't even understand:headache: She says that I have to pay all the fees plus my payment in order to have my account reviewed to see if the charges can be reversed. Of course, once I pay them they aren't going to take them off. I haven't ever had charges removed(I was late over a year ago due to my stupidity and didn't even ask) What is the chance they will remove the charges? I swear I just want to scream! It is not even the $, it is the point of it!

If you are in good standing with them they should wave the fees. I always pay my bills on time and, just like you, had a problem with 1 bill 1 time. I called them up and becuae of my good history with them the happily waved the fees. I hate it when you get connected to overseas.... not only is it hard to understand the "English" they speak it's usually a bad connection so even if they were speaking without an accent I couldn't understand them anyway! :headache:
Try and call them again, matbe you can go online and find another customer service # and try that. Good luck!:cheer2:

I hope they take the charges off your card. Anyone can forget to pay their bill. I almost missed my Kohls charge this month. I thought, gee, I wonder if I owe anything on Kohls. Checked it one day before it was due.
Thankfully the money went through and I was not charged finance charges.

I would double check with someone higher up.

At least USAA does this, as I just went thru this due to an extremely large vet bill. It doubled due to the poor exchange rate and the bill showed up two days after it was due. Military mail moves very slow this time of year. I should have called and asked about my statement but I got distracted. Anyway, I spoke to someone from Executive accounts resolution, who gladly wiped out the 29.50 interest. I have no minimim monthly balance due, so I cannot help you on those fees, etc. You could try calling back and asking for a supervisor, calmly explain your computer error and tell them that you have learned a valuable lesson about paying attention to detail. Good luck!

I never assume my CC bill has been paid until I get the confirmation email back from them. Do you remember if you received one or not? I have an email folder just for CC bills so I can always check back, but so far I have been lucky. Good luck.

I went through that over 50 cents, it is set on auto pay and I have never had a cent charged on the amount due ever. And I noticed early tried to pay online and it would not let it go through since it said I had paid for the time. So got next bill with late fee and crap added. I called over seas, she said she could not help me, I told her she was going to help me or I was going to do some major complaining, all the time I was very nice, she put me back on hold and then took it off. I do not know if they have to give you the run around first or what, but stay on them and ask to speak to someone else.

I just went round and round with my Amazon Chase account about bills I misplaced around the holdays. When I found it and paid it, it ended up being 2 days late. $39 late fee. Everyone I talked to would not do anything even though I always pay on time and pay in full.

I finally decided to give it one more shot and called the other day and asked to speak to a supervisor as soon as someone answered. I was able to get them to credit $20 of the late fee.

That made me happy enough even though I would have liked to have the whole thing credited. I figure I have made money on them with all the promotions and rewards I get, so they thought they would get some of their money back.

Ask to speak to a supervisor as soon as you get a live person on the line. Don't waste your time with the others. They are all programmed to say the same thing.

Call and ask for a supervisor. This is true of virtually any customer service issue with virtually any type of company. The regular phone reps often don't have the authority to remove fees, change rates, grant refunds, etc. So always ask for a supervisor.

I have gotten fees removed once I paid the bill again. What really made me mad was that I had a 0 balance and didn't even look at my bills...you know 0 balance...and they charged a $59 member fee, I didn't know they did...not paying attention, and then they slapped a $39 late fee...I cancelled the card.
I decided that any card I had that charged a membership fee I was cancelling unless they dropped the fee. I really don't care about my FICO score lowering due to my cancelling the cards. I care about losing money and spending it on nothing. So, it will just be my Disney Visa and my Discover. I hate cc's. I am so bad at thinking I have money because I have a card...mental illness. It is my goal for this year....only use them for travel. Don't charge anything and pay them off. YUK.

It did sound like she was reading from a script. I don't mind paying the larger amount as my payment, if I am guaranteed they will take those charges off after I do that. I'll call this evening and ask to speak to a supervisor! Thanks for the advice!

Something like that happened to me 2 months ago only with USAA. I went through the online payment process and wrote down my confirmation number. The next month, my hubby came home and said he received something in the mail saying we did not pay the bill. I went back to the website and sure enough it said I did not pay. I checked my bank act online and nothing for USAA went through. :confused3 I then checked my payment confirmations to make sure I did not forget to make the insurance payment and yep, i had a confirmation. I knew my payment did not go toward someone else's acct since nothing went through my bank acct. It was not until I checked the confirmation number to the previous month's payment that something was wrong. The confirmation number was way off sequentially. Further investigation made me realize I had failed to hit the SUBMIT button and I saw my acct number and wrote that down as the confirmation number :headache: A double insurance payment made me be more careful the following month.

We just went through this with Bank of America and they flat out refused to help. DH pays the bills on the same day every month, online. Last month, they changed our due date! It was 4 days earlier than normal so when he thought he paid 2 days early, he really paid 1 day late. They said it wasn't there error so they couldn't reverse anything.

We were stuck with not only the late fee, but an interest rate hike because we paid late. This was the first time ever, but they jacked the interest up and refused to fix it.
We promptly transferred the entire balance to a card with actual customer service.

I'll admit I have made mistakes myself - haven't we all - but I don't understand blaming the credit card company. If you made the payment late or you forgot to make the payment entirely, why should the company waive the fee incurred. It is very nice if they agree to do so, but I certainly wouldn't expect it and I wouldn't be angry at them if they didn't. I'd be angry at myself for screwing up (which is exactly how I felt one time when I forgot to pay a bill).

Something similar happened to me yesterday with Chase. A $4,000 payment came out when I just knew I had canceled it because I had changed the payment source. My checking account got nailed with a $28 overdraft fee, the first one I've had since I was a teenager. I am going to suck it up and pay it, 100% my fault because I didn't print out the confirmation, I have no proof I didn't have a mommy brain incident.

Big name CC will remove fees to a certain extent. Usually it is one fee a year if you are in good standing. Chase removed the $39 fee with no question but it was the first time and it is a high limit card.

I had luck getting chase to remove a late fee - I actually paid the bill early so it got credited to the previous statement instead of the current statement (if that makes sense!)

Since we are talking about Chase, I HATE THEM!!!! Last month I sent my full payment in, as I always do. When my bill came, I noticed that the payment was not processed until four days later. I thought it would be posted within 24 hours so I used the card over the weekend. I was wrong and charged a $39 dollar over limit fee. I called to ask what happened and the CM told me that while my payment was recieved on Friday, it was not processed until monday. The bill was due on saturday. Because the payment was not processed, I went over the limit on Sunday. So I asked her "Let me get this right. You can see on your computer that my payment was recieved on Friday but it was not put in until monday. But you still charged me a late fee and an over limit fee even though you had a check for my FULL payment in the office." She told me that was correct because they do not process payments on the weekend, only fees. I thought that was outragous, but I still paid the fees. I did not use the card AT ALL the next month. Bill comes. Once again they said they recieved the payment for my overlimit fee one day late. They gave me a late charge on the over limit fee and that put me over the limit so I was hit with an overlimit fee. Then they charged me a finance charge on the late overlimit fee. I called and argued, did NOT yell or swear, but was rather angry, and the CM hung up on me. Fun times.

I don't mind the late fee, but to have the late fee put me over the limit and then charge me an overlimit fee is just crazy. I feel like they shouldn't count their fee towards the balance-give a girl time to pay the late fee, KWIM? I mean, I was $4 overlimit!

I mispaid a credit card once and they actually refunded me EVEN though the amount I wanted to pay was under the amout that was due.
I sent in 1,200 and meant to send 200.

Use both the phone and snail mail, with a week or two in between, to ask that they re-review the account and cut you a break on these fees.

If you pay the bill on line (or even if you use snail mail), make a second payment halfway through the month every month, well over the previous month's minimum payment. This way you shouldn't get a late charge if the payment close to the due date misses the due date.
