Psycho, neurotic mom question...

We are going May 7-15 to Riverside. We will be bringing our then 7 month old for her 1st trip. :goodvibes

Here's the neurotic part. I am nervous about using a resort crib (or it might be a pack and play I heard?) How will I know it is clean? She's already been quite sick this winter with RSV and bronchiolitis, so I've become a bit of a nut about keeping her healthy.

Does anyone know how clean those things are? Or, would I be a nut to fly a pack and play down with us from NJ? Or can I buy one new online and have it shipped to the resort?

Help, and thanks!

I don't think you're psycho or neurotic :-) My dd had RSV when she was 4 mos. old, and I know where you are coming from. Honestly, There is really no way to know how clean they are so you have a couple of options:

1. Request for your crib/pack-n-play to be specially cleaned before delivery (who knows to what extent?)

2. Bring your own or buy one and have it shipped.

If I had an easily susceptible child, I would probably bring my own.

Just my opinion!

just ship your cleaning stuff. then you can clean the pack n play and the bathroom - which may not be up to your standards either.

some maids are great and do a great job.

some others well - they try - it about as best as they get.

I'm a germ freak. When my kids were babies, we used the pack n play, but I brought my own sheets/blankets and cleaned it before we used it.

What we did when we took our then infant was packed some disinfecting wipes and our own pnp sheet. I set the pnp up and wiped all surfaces down with the wipes, let it dry and then put our sheets on. Those pnps are probably a ton cleaner than the high chairs. :)

The only time we had to use one I wiped the whole thing down with those Clorox wipes and brought my own PNP sheets...

They are pretty easy to travel with. I'd bring my own in your situation. I remember when I was flying when mine were small the airline allowed us two "baby paraphenalia" checked bags in addition to our normal allowance. That took care of the car seat and the pack-and-play.

Some airlines will only allow 2 suitcase per person. Babies may not count since they don't have tickets issued to them. Call the airline to be sure. I'd at least bring my sheets and cleaning supplies.

I agree with the others who are suggesting to bring some cleaning wipes, maybe in a ziplock, and your own sheets. I did that once before and am planning on doing it again. Good luck to you.

I'm with you on this. My now 3.5 yo DD went through a string of illnesses when she was a baby. I turned quite neurotic about germs for a while! I was finally starting to relax a bit and now I have a new baby that I'm freaked out will be sick all the time too.

I was never comfortable with using a hotel issued pack and play. My DD's face would always get pressed up on the cloth sides. It grossed me out thinking how many other kids would have slobbered all over the sides previously. Also, there is no mattress pad over the pack and play mattress. If there is a diaper leak that soaks through the sheet, there is no protection.

We always travel with our own pack and play. If you are using Magical Express, it is very little effort to do so. We slide our pack and play into a large duffel bag and check the bag with the sky cap at the curb with a Magical Express ticket on it. The next time we see it is in the hotel room.

My mother is the EXACT same way. (And it has certainly rubbed off on me).

I would definitely, without hesitation, bring your own pack and play. You don't have to ship it. You only have to check it in on the airplane (if you fold it up and put it in the carrying-bag it usually provides). Though Disney has exceptional service, you can never be too careful.

I brought my own PNP on trips and never had a problem traveling with it. IIRC, my daughter was allowed luggage even though she was flying as a lap baby.

Since she has been having illnesses I would buy a super cheapy one online and have it shipped to your resort.

If money is a problem then you can try flying with yours but airlines can be a pain with that kind of thing and I am not sure of the luggage allowances for your airline.

Wipes are great but they are for solid surfaces only... they dont clean the sponge parts underneath. Can you imagine what is lurking in that foam where nobody can see or really clean?!?!
YUCK!

Since she has been having health issues I would pack a travel size container of clorox wipes and some clorox spray and do a quick 30 minute clean up in the bathroom and counters.

I am not a germ freak but one of my sons got extremely ill when he was young and had lung damage due to his illness. I was extremely careful when it came to stuff like this so as not to get him ill again. Luckily he is great now at 13 but it was scary when he was little.

I would also call housekeeping when you arrive just to let them know you have a child that has health issues and that you are concerned and want to make sure your room gets a good cleaning every day. That doesn't mean they will do it but it can't hurt to ask nicely. You don't have to go into detail about the reasons, just that she has health issues.

My DS had RSV at 7 weeks, you are not being neurotic at all. Personally I would buy one or bring yours with you. You don't know what kind of cleaning products Disney uses and your baby might react to them being in such close proximity i.e. laying on the pad. I would def. bring my own and pack my own sheet or 2. Good Luck!:goodvibes

I agree with the last post.:thumbsup2 I just checked ours with the luggage along with the car-seat, it was very easy and peace of mind.:) We once stayed at a very fancy hotel and the crib they provided was not up to safety standards. You could easily fit a soda pop can through the bars. Never again! Makes me wonder if car rental places are using recalled car-seats??:scared:

#1 - germs are good for your baby. I have a 6 year old and a 6 month old.

While you dont want them to be in an obviously dirty crip, some common germs are good and help build up the immune system. If you are as you put it this nerotic (sp) at home and keep you child isolated from germs, they will get sick every time you travel.

I am going to the BC next week and we will have a crib. We just bring a pack of clorox bleach wipes and wipe things down with that first, then a simple wash cloth with soap and water to get rid of the bleach smell.

relax,,,germs are good.
