Last minute room policy

Hi folks, I know it is the peak season but I was wondering about something. I called for a simple 2 night trip at the beginning of February (I was going to surprise my wife, will be in Ft Lauderdale), Wanted a value or moderate for a Thur/Fri with possible Sat night. Was told no availability by one rep and then another said king rooms were available but since my DD turned 3 we can't get a king room. Does Disney hold out rooms with the desire to get people for 5 and 6 night trips at the cost of turning down 2-3 night stays? And does Disney really think the 2 inches my 3 yo grew makes a difference in where she can sleep?

They lost a family of 3 for 3 or 4 days

Disney does in fact block out some rooms in hopes of being able to book longer 5, 6 and 7 night stays vs. 2 and 3 night stays.

One 'cheat' is to book a longer stay and then drop the nights you don't need..

I've tried to book non-disney hotels with my 3 yr old in a king room and I haven't had any luck. I think it's more of a fire code thing and not so much that she won't fit in the bed.

Your problem could be with trying to get that Saturday night. That happens all the time with reservation systems. You plug in that you want Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Thursday and Friday are OK but Saturday is booked. So you get "rooms not available" for your entire trip. It's happened to me many times trying to book hotels for NASCAR race weekends. It's not just something Disney does.

Sorry you decided not to go to Disney World because of the availability. Would you consider getting a nice place offsite?

thanks, I think I'm gonna try again as the date gets closer. I dont want to stay off site. this is a total last minute thing and would only want to stay on site. I don't want to rent a car or do any driving.

I agree with Canadian Guy, when trying to get a room for my daughter to come up to Disney the same time as I'm going. When I put in the wrong check out date checking in 1-26 and checking out 2/1 the room was available. When I put in the dates 1/26 - 1/28 it said no room available. I played with the dates a little. As long as I booked at least 4 nights the room was available. Had nothing to do with Saturday night because my check in date never changed.

Must not be a problem in California, upon check in at the Disneyland Hotel they put us (Mom, myself, and DD) in a King Room, DD was 9 at the time.

We went ahead and got the King room, it was in the Sierra Tower, the double Queen room that was available was in the Bonita Tower. We had a beautiful view and DTD was just steps from our door. Yes, the bed was a little tight (no couch), but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Don't know why they wouldn't book a 3rd guest in a King Room if there is a couch. Seems strange. Rules are rules though!

Good Luck! Overbooking and dropping sounds like your best option.

Hotel rooms with king beds only sleep two at WDW. Plus one under the age of three. Once your child turns three, they count towards room occupancy.

We are having trouble finding availablity for the begining of Feb also. I have found something different everyday though. Just keep checking lots of rooms may turn up. Maybe do a split stay 2 nights at one resort 2 nights at another. This is what we are doing but I am going to check everyday for something at one resort. Good Luck!

Are you charged anything for dropping a day off the end? We may need to do this -- and I'd hate to be charged. We do have a package.

Any thoughts?
