im new around here. dh and i are going to WDW next month and are staying at SS in a studio. we are not DVC members. we decided to on a trip to FL last minute and SS and FW cabins were our options(only thing available for our whole stay), we picked SS. we have stayed at the BWI(2004) and YCR(2006) and LOVED both for so many reasons, one being the location. however this trip(even before booking) i had said that i wanted to try a new place to see what other resorts were like. i did stayed at the CR and All star sports in 2003. i liked the CR and the all star was ok but had a lot of groups if teens and college students sports teams for my liking. i have read some reviews about the SS being very large and not as "disney" as some of the others resorts. one thing we look fwd to in our trips to disney is all the disney touches.

i have read that there will be some conventions, a dance group and cheerleading group during our stay, which is also superbowl and mardi gras time too. will this effect the crowds at the park??

tips, suggestions etc in regard to the SSR would be great (sorry if this has been asked before). this is not our 1st trip to disney nor our last. we LOVE the parks but also enjoy some relaxing and exploring on/off property as well.

SSR is a wonderful resort. Just a short walk from DTD - either the Marketplace or Westside. You can walk to both from SSR. Plus there is also a boat you can ride over. Bus service to the parks.

You'll have a queen sized bed and a double sleeper sofa in your room. Also a small kitchenette with microwave, toaster, coffee pot, undercounter refrigerator. The Spa at SSR is very nice. Two nice eating locations - Artist's Palette (unscale counter service) and the Turf Club (steaks, meat, whatever you like).

is there are particular section of the resort i should request? maybe closer to the main building?

I loved our stay at SSR last summer....which was a pleasant suprise considering how we were evicted from the AKL. Me and my g/f were in a 1 bedroom, which was entirely too much room for just the two of us. But very nice nonetheless.

We stayed in the Congress park area (or atleast I think that's what it was called). Which was very nice because we weren't too far from the main lobby building and about a 15 min walk from downtown disney. As far as SSR lacking the disney magic, I actually liked it. It was nice to come home from the parks to such a relaxing atmosphere.

The distance from the parks was probably the only thing I didn't care too much for. It felt as though every park was at least a 25 min bus ride away. But other than that I loved our stay there.....and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

the springs is near check-in, the main pool and artist's palette.

congress park is also popular for views of DTD and easy walking distance to DTD and it's bus hub (makes it easy to resort hop.)

I believe the carousel area is the closest area to the main lobby. Someone please correct me if I am wrong....

The Springs is right across the street from the themed pool, spa, Turf Club and Artist's Palette.

Carousel is closest to the entrance of the resort. And it really might be closest to the Carriage House, but not to the amenities.
