MNSSHP - How Photogenic

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I'll be there by myself. I can't each much candy. I'm not inclined to dress up as anything other than a nerdy photographer wannabe. I'm not going to be dancing. I'll mostly just be there to soak up the atmosphere and take pictures.

How photogenic is it? Is it worth the time and money or would I be better served spending the evening at Epcot, MGM, the Boardwalk, etc? I'll be there on Th/Fri/Sat. The MK is open late on Fri and Sat and the MNSSHP is on Th.

I went a couple weeks ago- there was some interesting stuff around and some different colored lighting along Main Street. The fireworks were different with ghost shapes and such projected on the castle. The parade had some interesting stuff in it as well. The Haunted Mansion was gussied up and had a lot of fog around it- kind of cool and extra creepy- plus Madame Leota was out on the front lawn talking to people in line.

Unfortulately my camera battery died about half way thru the night and I missed quite a bit. This was on the tail end of my week at Disney so I was kind of burned out by then and decided to go light and just grab my D50 w/ the 50/1.8 and ended up kicking myself. (I had to remove and replace the battery just to get the camera to turn on- then it would immediately shut down after one shot without displaying anything on the LCD at all- so it was kind of like film days with waiting to see what I got.) I think I would have enjoyed the picture taking experience quite a bit had I went fully equipped including a light tripod. But I was with the kids anyway so it was tuff to slow down for long.

Thursday may be a good night to go BTW- I went on a Friday night and it was jammed. I have only processed a few of the pictures from it so far- I will probably do some more tonight.

I have enjoyed the couple times I have gone, the last time with a fast lens and shot in RAW to be able to better manipulate.
The colors and settings are all changed just for this event which really makes for some interesting shots.

I love fall anyway but it's kind of a special thing at MK that only happens this time of year. I think you'd enjoy it.

The Boo To You parade and fireworks are neat. Orange, purple and green fireworks and a catchy tune (which will forever stick in your head) and some unusual characters and dances (ie the gravediggers). I would love to see your attempts at photographing the Headless Horseman! He makes his run a little while before the parade starts (if it's not heavily raining). You'll have two attempts if there are two parades that night. I love the colors on Main St and all the Halloween decorations all around and in the stores.

Liberty Square is fun, too. Out by Haunted Mansion there are ghost hosts dressed up and inside the attraction they're extra creepy. Make sure you mosey into Liberty Tree Tavern where you'll also catch some good sights of characters, CMs and guests dressed up. Also just walking around there are some great sites of people having dressed up fun. One time watching the fireworks there was a man standing next to me dressed as a woman and his "balloons" were the subject of some serious ribbing from the guys around us.

If you go, throw on an orange or pirate tee shirt if you have one and you'll fit right in! Check allearsnet for info and photos. Mine aren't that good (which frustrates me as I'd like to go this year just to use my new camera there).

Did you see the photos and video of the parade as well as hallowishes on the main board - wdwinfo.com under events category? (wow!)

I think the halloween party is amazing. I liked the christmas party, but I loved the halloween party. My goal is to upgrade my little P&S Nikon and learn to take great night pics at wdw - especially spectro and MNSSHP.

Hi there! I am looking VERY forward to shooting MNSSHP... but am pretty ameteur as far as photography goes still - especially night photography. I'd love some tips as to settings you might use to get some good shots with proper exposure. I plan to bringa light tripod along with as well. Thanks for any tips!! :goodvibes

Gdad - those are some awesome pics...love the first 2...what setting did you use and how do you get such vivid colors??? i'll be going on the 16th and have the s2is - i know thats not as good of a camera as yours but can you give me some tips...thanks for sharing your pics!!!

And, korzmom, pics with your S2 will come out more like Pea-n-me's and mine:

They're not as bright or as sharp as Gdad's DSLR, but they're still pretty good!

BTW, Gdad ... that's a *really* great pic of the HM doorkeeper! :thumbsup2 It really captures the essence of the HM at Halloween! Did you ask him to pose, or did he notice you taking is picture and give you that creepy look? The HM is probably my favorite MK attraction and it was so cool to see the "tweaked" ride and the CMs in their MNSSHP makeup!!

I am going to two of them on my 7 day trip in a couple of weeks :thumbsup2 :woohoo: :woohoo: I think just being there is FUN enough!
