I just made reservations for the week we will be there and the rep. said to expect a 45 minute to an hour travel time to the restaraunts (depending on where you are I guess). This is our first time there... does it really take that long?

Way too many factors are involved in determining the travel times. What restaurant are you going to and where are you leaving from? What is your method of travel? If using Disney transportation it could take that long.

If you are coming from one park to another park, then yes, because the buses may not be waiting for you and you have to wait for them, then walk in the park to the restaurant.

If going from resort to resort, then yes, because you will have to go to a park or DTD and transfer buses.

If you are driving yourself, probably not.

Yes without a doubt always leave an hour for travel time. :thumbsup2

It really depends on where you're going from/to. We tend to plan our meals around our park days so we don't spend that much time in transit.

If we're taking the bus, we always allow for a minimum of 45 minutes. In most cases, we're pretty much on time.

We always plan on 1.5 hours when using Disney busses. Just waiting and transferring to get to the right resort will take a while. I think the fastest we did it was in 30 minutes but that definately isn't normal. It usually takes longer than that.

Also when going resort to resort, DVC and the Deluxe resorts have a shuttle service that takes you to the resort restaurant.

are there busses from park to park, or do you need to hop at some resort?

I have heard of a shuttle for early character meals. But you can do this at other times? That's news to me. For instance, staying at the WL I could ask for a shuttle to the BW for dinner without using regular bus routes? Please elaborate.

I have never heard of this. :confused3

In the mornings, buses will come by and sometimes take you to early character breakfasts at different resorts, but that's it as far as I know.

My DH and I have dinner reservations on the 13th at Kona Cafe. What would be the best way to get there from ASMo. We plan to spend the rest of the evening in MK.

The best way would be to take the bus from ASMo to the MK, then hop on the monorail to the Poly. I think they have a boat from the MK that goes to the Poly/GF, too. Or they used to!

I plan my restaurants completely around my parks/evening activites. We don't want to give up a bunch of time for travel.

I knew it was big, but last year, I learned that WDW is surprisingly HUGE! I thought ... Oh, I can go here, then here, then here... no big deal. WRONG I was! That was when we skipped ADRs because they were out of the way.

This year, if it is not in the park we are in, then it is extremely close by. On an Animal Kingdom day, we are going to BOMA... on Epcot/MK days we are going to monorail resorts. MGM... eating in the park.

Buses to/from MGM, AK and Epcot (front).

Friendship boat between the International Gateway of Epcot to/from MGM.

For the MK, the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) is the hub. Buses to/from AK and MGM are located there.

Monorail from TTC to Epcot.
