Shipping luggage to hotel's?

Has anyone use the baggage shipping services now offerred by Fedex and other company's? If so, how was the service? Any known problems or complaints? Prices too high? Etc.

I am considering sending ahead one large suitcase that we acquired several years ago, and discovered that you can pack A LOT more stuff in it than the airlines will permit (weight) for a checked baggage.

The idea being that we can pack most of our resort clothing, sunblock, swim suits, extra shoes, etc. and send it ahead to the hotel.

Then only carry the first day or two of clothing when we check into the airline with one smaller bag. (plus more space for WDW souvinEARSs) when we return.

Pirate Translation:
Arrhhhh arrggghhh! we be wonder'in if ye used 'ta service O' the cargo gang when yer shipp'in yer unmentionables and frills to the world O' the Mouse?
O'l Grumpy always take me dittybag on the Silvar Birrrrd when he trapse over yonder shors w'out a ships deck under me boots. Me wench 'wha be me wife like 'ta go on voyage with a passell of frills and baubles and boots fer the fairer kind. Arrrhh arrgghhh!

I cannot answer your questions but I can tell you this.

My best friends mom Fedexs/ups her luggage to florida several times a year.

She has never had a problem.

My best friend mailed hers, her hubbys and 2 kids things down at X-Mas with no problems.

No sure if you can do this at a Disney Resort tho.

We have shipped for our last four trips. We actually have two LARGE plastic boxes that are our "Disney" boxes for advanced shipping. We pack almost everything and send it to the resort the week before our trips. You need to be sure you have the proper mailing address for your resort, label the package with the person's name who made the reservation, your confirmation #, and the date of your arrival. We ship via Fed Ex and have never had a problem. When you arrive, simply let the cast member know when you check in that you have a package waiting... no problem. Have a great trip!

Not only have we sent stuff, but have ordered from companies like drugstore.com and all of it arrived safely.

Great! I even called the resort, and they confirm that is is a common thing. They told me that they also have an advanced check-in for luggage for most major airlines right at the resort! (domestic only-sorry)

Anyone one else with examples, Good, Bad, Ugly?

:cool1: I just got back from the POLY and I did the fedex shipment both ways. IT really works well. I had a FEDEX account number (you can open one for free) My wife and I shipped all of our "WDW Clothes" shorts, shirts, ponchos, water bottle carriers, extra socks, hiking shoes, etc etc. in a large hard sided "trunk" like suitcase. over 60 pounds! California to Floridia about $46.00! when flying, we only took two days clothing each (we were chicken that the Fedex might not make it) it arrived the same day we arrived! front desk gave it to the bell captain, and they brought it to our room.

when we left, all the souvineers went into the trunk, dirty clothing into the airline suitcases. shipped it out from the front desk no problem. Easy!

Next year we are going to do the same, except we are going to only have "carry on" with one days clothing! coooolll:cool1:

Thanks for following back up and letting us know it worked. DH and I are talking about doing this for our trip. How did the shipping home process work? Do you need to have an account? Is this something you can set up when you ship down there? How far in advance do you recommend getting things down there?

We'll be there in Jan and been told to plan for a little of everything weather wise. My poor DH was litterally shaking his head at the number of bags that translated into for me. :lmao: This might just be our best option.

Hey all-
Can you do the same thing with strollers? I'd love to ship our strollers down there, then ship them back, as well as some luggage.

Does it work with UPS also?

How do you ship back from your resort? Do they have a Fed-Ex or UPS shipping station? I hadn't considered this on our last trip, but it may be a good idea for our next one.

I'd like to know how to ship something from our Disney resort, too. Also, about how much does this cost?

Not meaning to be obnoxious, just genuinely curious . . .

What is the benefit of this? I honestly can't see any reason to go to the trouble and expense to do this, especially with the Magical Express baggage delivery service and the ability to check bags at the resort for your return flight.

Is it just that you need more stuff than your checked baggage allowance would allow on the flight? Or, is there some other benefit I'm missing? I want to make sure there's not some great reason to do this that I'm just too slow to grasp! :rotfl:

You don't have to worry about the airlines losing your luggage. I'm also considering doing this.

To answer Gem: I am considering doing this for the trip home in November. My DD and I are flying SWA, so no advanced baggage check at WL. We are only going for a few days, so we are traveling with carryons. I can ship a duffel bag back home filled with either laundry or all the souveniers we buy.

Oh. I hadn't thought about that. It's really not an issue to me, though. The percentage of luggage lost is very small. We travel by air six or seven times a year and have only ever had one bag temporarily go missing, about 5 years ago on a trip to NYC. For me, I don't think it would be worth the extra work to ship it. It sems like a good option for a lot people, though.

I too would like to know how it works shipping the luggage from the resort back home. I do not have a FedEx account. Do I need to set one up or can I ship it UPS from the resort? Since we rent a car, this seems like it would be nice so that we 1) do not have to wait for luggage and 2) do not have to worry about airlines losing luggage.

We do not fly often, but our luggage gets lost frequently (and I always have our destination info/dates and home info on the inside). We travel domestic but our luggage has been to England, Thailand and Russia (all separate trips) as well as to California (I have never been). So, this shipping luggage ahead of time, while a new idea to me, seems to be a very good idea.

Thanks to anyone who can give some advice on shipping home from the resort.

You don't have very good luck, do you. Or maybe, your luggage has a mind of its own and wants a more exotic vacation.:rotfl:
