Inside Room

I am sure there is a post on this somewhere but I can't find it!
We are contemplating doing a disney cruise this december. We LOVE disney and are dvc in SSR. We have also cruised several other lines but never disney. We have stayed in a inside room once when it was just my husband and i on RCCL. Then we have only stayed in balcony rooms since. I am having a hard time justifying the money to spend on the balcony!! Do you think Me, my husband and my dd 3 and ds 2 will be completly squished and regret the inside room? I know everyone says the rooms are bigger, are they really bigger? Has anyone stayed inside with 2 kids before??

I think you will be absolutely fine! On our first cruise we had an inside cabin and our kids were 6 and 3 and we had no problems. If it were up to me we'd still cruise in an inside cabin, even though our kids are now 15 and 12, but DH likes the light from the window so we get a Category 9.

We splurged on a balcony on our first 7-day and would never do it again. We didn't use the balcony enough to justify the cost and spent most of our time out of the room anyway.

Two tips...first, if you book at Category 12 you will automatically be upgraded to at least an 11 because there are no category 12's that sleep 4. Second, there are 6 cabins that are designated as Category 10's but are actually outside cabins (window only, no verandah) with a partially obstructed view. They are cabins 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522 and 5524. If you can snag one of these (they go fast!) it's a nice bonus!

I stayed inside with 4 adults and did not feel as cramped as I have on other inside cabins with just 2 people. It was awhile ago but if I recall there is a curtain that you can close so that the kids can't see you when you put them to bed. We are thinking about doing the cruise with our family at the time my kids will be 7 months and 2.5. I too can't justify spending the extra money we won't have anymore fun if we spend more money. I have cruised 7 times and always do the cheapest guaranteed room and hope for an upgrade I have never been disappointed. Book directly through the cruise line and call often to see if there are upgrades available. Thats what I do.

You should have no problem with dh, dd3 and ds2 fitting into an inside cabin. The rooms are larger than on other cruise lines.

On my last DCL cruise, it was me, ds12, dd17 and ddf17 and oh my goodness, we were cramped. That will be the last time I travel in an inside room with two 17 year old girls. There were clothes all over the room, along with make up, hair products, shoes, shoes and MORE shoes!!!!

I hate to say it, but I doubt an outside room will solve your problem. The outside cabins are not that much bigger than the inside cabins and teenage girls' stuff has a tendency to cover every available space, no matter how big it is.

I would suggest two connecting cabins (inside or outside), giving the girls their own and letting you have privacy and tidiness...plus you'll have two bathrooms!

Great suggestion, but I thought you could only get two rooms if there were two adults. At the time of our cruise, I was the only adult with the three kids. I'm going to start planning my next cruise (with the kids) right now if I can get connecting rooms with only one adult!

If your 17 year old will be 18 by cruise time you should be fine.

Back on topic...

I'd suggest booking the deluxe inside rather than the standard, if you can afford it. If not, you'll still have more space in the standard inside than you would on RCCL.

Have been on Disney with wife, DS8 and DD5 and had no problems at all with Inside room. We stayed organized and stayed OUT of the room.

We actually stayed in a smaller Carnival room last year (kids were 9 and 6) and had no problems there either.

We could not justify the extra price on our cruise next month for an OV or Verandah so we booked the GTY 12 knowing we will get no worse than Cat. 11(still waiting on cabin assignment)

Keep in mind that there are different sizes of inside staterooms -- Cat. 11 and 12 are smaller and do not have the split bath -- just a single bathroom. A Cat. 10 is the same square footage as a Cat. 6, just minus the balcony. Our family of 4 once booked a Cat 11 and felt cramped.

Also keep in mind when you are booking more than 1 stateroom for your family that the first two people in a room -- no matter how old -- pay the full fare, only the third, fourth, etc. passengers get a discounted fare. So if you are booking 2 staterooms for a family of 4, you will be paying full fare for 4 people, even if 2 of them are children.

I found the price for booking two cat 10's (deluxe inside cabins) was only $100 more than all four of us sharing one cat 10 for our upcoming 7 night cruise in March. Even though you pay adult price for the first two in the cabin, the kids were pretty expensive for a spring break cruise. If we all shared a balcony cabin, it was much more expensive, so I decided I'd rather have the space and two entire split bath setups than a balcony we may not use much. I agree with the one who posted that the space is more important than the balcony. I want us all to be able to sleep in peace, and have two toilets and showers. Plus 4 sinks! I'd price out all your options before committing to one setup. Yes, a category 4 gives you a little more space, but you're still sharing one room.

One nice bonus to an inside room is that you can easily convince your little one that 7 a.m. is really the middle of the night and we should all go back to sleep! I've done that now on 2 cruises with my now 9 year old (he was 7 and 8 on our 1st 2 cruises) and it's wonderful! I get a chance to catch up on my sleep deficit and my son is amazed by how quickly the clock moves from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. !
