Garden Grocer or send a package?

Which do you think is better, using Garden Grocer or sending a package to the resort ahead of you? I've previously sent a package with snacks, etc. and had no problem with it. This time it would be a larger package because it will need to include diapers.
Which do you think would be more economical (because I'm really, really frugal)?:rolleyes1 ;)

If it doesn't cost more to ship it than their delivery fee, it is worth it. Plus, if you ship your own, you know you are getting exactly what you want. Aren't gardengrocers prices a bit inflated anyway? $3.99 for a box of Hostess seemed a little steep, when I can get them here 2/ $5. Personally, I'm shipping! And it's not like diapers weigh that much, right? Not really much experience there.

I'm interested to hear opinions on this, too. Only drawback to shipping that I can see is that DH likes having his beer handy, and delivery would be cheaper than paying resort prices.
Otherwise I'm considering shipping breakfasts and diapers. Last year I had enough room in checked baggage that we just carried it with us, but that included baby food (in glass) that I didn't want to ship. The advantage was that it was in a collapsible bag that we could pack or fill with souvenirs for the trip home.

I have done both and both times I had small issues with shipping my own package. At the CR it took them until the second day to locate my box, and at the Dolphin they found it later in the evening on check in day.

I LOVE Garden Grocer and I am frugal as well, but they were timely and bell services brought everything up with our luggage. I know it's a little pricier than normal, but hey, you're on vacation!:)

Another vote for GardenGrocer. Their prices are in line with what I pay here in my grocery stores. Their customer service is top-notch. If there's something you don't see on their site just call or e-mail them, they'll do their best to get it for you. We'll never ship our own stuff again.:thumbsup2

ETA: We love our wine and had ordered it. It was ready & waiting for us, in fact we ran out mid-week and called them up and they came right out with more!!

Are you flying? If so, and you don't have more than 2 checked bags/person, I would pack the box and check it. If you are taking Magical Express, you wouldn't even need to get it to your room, just to the airport. The best part is no shipping or delivery fee (unless you want perishables).

I just got back and ordered through GardenGrocer and everything was good, except that my water bottles (PolandSprings) were not available (backorder) so they sent me a complimentary 24 pack of ZephyHills with my order(i ordered breakfast, snacks, etc.) The next day i got my 48 pack of PolanDspring

My vote would be for Wegoshop, I just returned from BWV and Marge and her service was great. She shopped at two stores for me and was able to find all my items. You can check the weekly flyers online for prices. I requested Publix and Sam's. Marge was right on with all the items. Everything was cold and fruit was perfect. I have used her service before and would not hesitate to recomend Wegoshop. THANKS AGAIN MARGE!

Definitely Garden Grocer! Then you can order refrigerated ,glass,or fresh fruit, etc also. We went with a group and I placed one order that was large so our shipping was free. The service was flawless.Chances are between boxing ,shipping and your time you are not saving that much doing it yourself .

Thanks for all the responses. I'm still undecided, but this gave me more information.:thumbsup2

We ordered from garden grocer and were very happy. Everything was just as promised. We traveled with a 10 month old, so we ordered diapers (not heavy but bulky), baby food, yogurt, bananas (both really expensive at the food court) juice boxes (we froze them to use as ice packs), breakfast snacks, and pretzels. I am a staples rewards card holder, so I had free shipping on water and I ordered 2 cases. Here's a suggestion off topic a bit if you like to save...bring mix ins for your water bottle and request the free ice water that is provided at any restaurant/food service area that serves fountain drinks...it was a big money saver!

I've read hit and miss posts for garden grocer. You pay for them to shop the list you provide... and you give them a tip... OR you shop and ship --

for us, we shopped and shipped - I have the bubble wrap, so I wrapped our liquer, and champagne, I threw in champagne glasses (they were a freebie with a Moet champagne, that I dont care if they break... they end up being so sturdy!)

I also ship a soft sided empty suitcase!! :rotfl2: which holds our souveneirs and extra spillage!!

For us, and what we order (we dont order fresh fruit) it is way cheaper to go UPS (the post office is more expensive than UPS)

When I ship I know the resorts will hold our package for 2 weeks, but I ship UPS 1 week before we leave, and I include our ressie # - the last 3 trips, no problem whatsovever!!

I agree garden grocer was the way to go for us.....we have thought about shipping but after we added everything up garden grocer was the easiest and cheaper way to go and they gave us a discount.

Does Garden Grocer deliver alcohol? I didn't see it listed on their website.:drinking1

A co-worker recommended garden grocer for our Nov. trip. But, alcohol delivery is the question amongst our group of 13. I'm interested to know the answer also.

On our first trip I shipped a good size box to myself at the BC in 2003. It arrives two days before we did and they charged me $9.00 a day to store it. The second year I just packed everything in a suitcase, but I didn't bring as much. So this year i'm trying out garden grocer. I know that's not much help, but I wanted to share my story.

They charged you $9 a day to store it? Yikes! I was never charged the two times I shipped packages to ASMu and Pop. Is it different at the deluxe resorts?

Yes they do. All you need to do is call or e-mail them and tell them what you want. Read my previous post on this thread about the wine.;)

I don't know if they still do that, but that's what happened to me back in 2003.
