January will be our first time staying at WDW for the major part of our vacation. We are seriously considering the DDP but are finding it difficult to get an idea of exactly what each of the "components" means.

We are very familiar with WDW (first visit in 1991) but if anyone can give us a simple explanation of how they used each of their points it would be a great help.

We are simply trying to get an idea of how the plan can be put to best use over the course of a day.

Thanks everyone and a big hello from Scotland

Easiest way? Look online for the menus and see where you feel that you must eat at, what you would order, etc - remember to figure in tax and tip. Add them together and see if it's worth it when compared to DDP.

Then, figure in the question "now, since all these restaurants are included, what restaurants would I eat at - where normally I would not if paying out of pocket". Add those in and se how it compares to DDP.

I know if we are not on DDP, we would not eat at as many sitdown and character dining places as when we're on DDP.

Then see how the whole eating experience fit in with your park experience. If you don't care about food, character dining, etc. and just want to eat quickly from counter service and go, go, go, DDP may not be for you.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but here is an example of using the dining plan:

Magic Kingdom:
Breakfast at Crystal Palace(1 TS credit)

Aloha Isle- Dole whip (1 snack credit)

Dinner at Pecos Bills-
Burger, fries, Coke, chocolate cake (1 CS credit)

Or

MGM:

Starring Rolls-cinnamon roll(1 snack)

Lunch at Backlot Express-Grilled Vegetable Sandwich,Bottled Water, Marble Cheesecake(1 CS credit)

Dinner at 50's Prime Time-Fried Herb Cheese, Meatloaf, Cherry Coke, S'mores(1 TS credit)

Head over tot he Disney Dining Review Board. Read some of the reviews from people back that used the DDP. This will give you an idea of how people used the plan as well as how it was!

On the DDP dinner is a better value than lunch.

We normally grab a piece of fruit or granola bar in our room and use the resort refillable mug for breakfast. Or you can use a snack credit and get a whole box (about eight) Entemann donuts at the resort food court.

We use a counter service credit for lunch-example: 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup, chocolate cake, and a soda at Columbia Harbour House.

We then use our TS credit for dinner-example: a mango smoothie, tomato stack appetizer, filet with mushroom risotto, maple creme brulee at Le Cellier.

Your snack credit can be used anytime during the day for just about anything less than $4.00 or if you don't use all of them you can run by Goofy's Candy Store in DTD or your resort food court on your departure day and get some goodies to take home with you.

We have chosen de deluxe dinerplan.

You can eat what and where you like and also the resort mugs come for free.

Thank you everyone

That's exactly the type of info I was hoping for. I'll now spend some time looking at menus, pricing, DDP reviews etc and then decide if it is going to be good value for the 2 of us.

Thanks again
