I'd tried to change it to OTP (off the plan) - but it never took off.

To me, oop (out of pocket) doesn't necessarily make a lot of sense since the money to pay for our ddp came out of my pocket as well, but hey, got to go with the flow.

A caution to all, if you are paying OOP - don't charge it back to your room. Use your credit card or cash. There have been many reports (and it happened to us) that they wound up charging it against our dining plan rather than a charge for the total to the room.

I had thought of that. I was planning on not even bothering linking a credit card to my room key, but I do need to do that for express check-out. But I always link a credit card, but then never bother using the room key as credit and just use my VISA.
