Hi All,

We went out on a limb and moved ourselves to the Grand Floridian today!!!! :)

My question is that we got a garden view room and I wondered if they were in the main building or throughout? Anyone have pictures? What is a dormer room? Are they garden as well? Questions, questions! ;)

You will LOVE the Grand Floridian.:goodvibes

The main building is concierge only. Costs much more than standard garden view rooms. There are 5 different outer lodge buildings & the main building. Most lodges have garden views as an option. Sugar Loaf is also a concierge building so it is a different category than garden view. The buildings with GV rooms are Conch, Boca Chica, Sago Cay, and Big Pine Cay. Most GV rooms at the GF have views of the courtyard and pool areas. Sago has marina views as an option for GV.

Dormer rooms are at the top floors and they have the high, slanted ceiling. Kind of like an attic room - very charming and cosy & IMO less hotellish. Some of these dormer rooms could have garden views. Some people don't care for dormer rooms because they have a solid balcony rail vs. the standard more open railing the nondormer rooms have.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Yeah! your staying at the GF! There is great helpful information at the Grand Floridian post that is about 450 pages long. Lots of pictures on there too!

Since a lot of the posts on that link have to do with Concierge, it can be a bit confusing if you are staying GV. Lives4Disney is a great help and gave you a great breakdown of the GV buildings!

Here is a link of those who are excited about staying at the GF for the first time and staying in a GV room. It may be a good link for you to run through and get excited. I was feeling kinda bummed about going to the GF and only be able to stay in a lowly GV room, but these folks, helped me get real excited about our upcoming stay!

Here is the link to that post!

we've had a garden view at the GF and it's fine...
it's the least expensive view but how much time do you spend in your room anyway?...

we love the GF, regardless of which room we're in...

We love the dormer rooms they are really nice and fingers crossed we can get one tomorrow too:thumbsup2

Thanks All!

jtlover, did you make a request for the dormer room? What 'view' did you reserve?

We just returned from GF yesterday. We had a garden view dormer room in Boca Chica and loved it. Here are some pics:

The beds (my daughter was trying to crouch down to not be in the picture...unsuccessfully)

After turndown:

View from the balcony:

View looking in the opposite direction:

Interior from balcony

Table and chairs (this room did not have a daybed)

We loved the room, and would definitely request it again.

Those pics are beautiful!! I was afraid of trying a dormer room (worried it would feel cramped), but now Im not so sure....:goodvibes

I was a little worried about this as well, but we didn't feel cramped at all in the dormer room. We didn't miss the daybed either. What I don't have pictures of is the bathroom sinks and the bathroom, which were by the door and added more space to the room. There was more than enough room.

Could I get some feedback from some of you GF "vets"?
I have a GV room booked, and have requested Sago, upper floor, marina view, as someone here suggested (and I chose it because it sounded like a nice view if for a garden). Anyway, my question is, since this is my first visit, should I call and cancel my room request and let them place me? After all, I've never been, and only know what to ask for based on the resort map and the comments from you who have been. Any thoughts?
We arrive on Nov. 28, and do plan to spend a good bit of time at the resort.
TIA!

Hi, I also requested Sago for it's convenience to Gaspies (for my 3 kids) and it is pretty close to the bus stop and main building, but I wouldn't care WHERE we were actually - as long as it's GF;) . All the buildings are fairly close and they all would have a little benefit (I really like the Boca Chica views better than Sago's)...Big Pine is nearere the theme pool....Boca is right near the courtyard pool, Conch is close to the MK boat launch. It's tough!! The GF is just a wonderful resort so you really can't go wrong in any of the buildings. I kind of feel bad that I requested Sago because I'd like to be surprised. We won't be arriving until very late 11pm or so on a Friday night, so we might wind up with the leftovers anyway.

Disney planner mama - I LOVE your pictures. I am glad it was a nice stay.:goodvibes

when we went we had requested Conch or Sago, the first room we were assigned was Sago, but not marina side -- it looked over the back of the convention center, a parking lot, and what looked like several portable toilets....they were able to change us to another room, but I think I did manage to find the one bad garden view location! But looking around the resort I really didn't see any other views that could be considered bad.

I appreciate the comments, tho neither of you actually suggested to me to call and cancel my request. I guess I am tossed between just keeping the request in their computer, and getting rid of it to see what room we are assigned. Just call me a obsessive planner!!:rotfl: This being our first GF experience, I want to enjoy it to the max!!
