My review of the Fantasmic Premium Seating (8/7)

We did the Fantasmic Premium Seating on August 7th (last Tuesday). I tried for the balcony but Vacation Planning told me it wasn't open in August (although I swear I saw it being prepared for Fantasmic seating on the day we were booked into the premium seats  :confused3 ).

At $59 each for DH and I and $49 each for our three children, I did feel it was a little steep for a 20 minute show but then I am not one to stake out seats three hours in advance. We don't have the patience! At 6pm people were already lined out in front of the fencing.

The tickets stated that the check-in would open at 7.00pm. We rushed over there and arrived outside POTC at around 6.35pm. I couldn't figure out where we were supposed to check-in, so I asked a CM and they pointed us in the right direction - the desk is beside a small set of stairs on the other side of the island, near the Cafe Orleans and next to a churro stand.

By this time it was around 6.45pm and there was already a long line of people waiting to check-in. I'd guess there were at least 4 or 5 other families in front of us. At 7.00pm they started checking us in. How they allocate the seats is simple - the earlier you check-in the better seats you get. Luckily, we managed to secure five front row seats. They weren't in the dead centre (they were off to the left a little) but they seemed okay. We were then told to come back at 8.25pm when they would begin the seating. I'd advise anyone who has got this booked to get there at around 6.15pm for the best seats in the house.

We arrived back at 8.25pm and we were sat in the order we checked-in, so we were about the fourth party to be seated. At this point we were introduced to our server and brought refreshments. The available drinks included cans of soda and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. You can have as many as you like - our kids started with a can and then got a hot chocolate just before the show began.

Once the drinks have been served the dessert boxes are given out. I was very surprised by the size of these. There was a huge array of pastries and things like cookies and chocolate covered strawberries (which were delicious). There was way too much for us to eat (you get one box each - to be honest, one box probably would have been enough for all of us!). We took the left overs back to the hotel.

Unfortunately, my pictures of the seating area and Fantasmic didn't come out at all. I thought I would experiment with my cameras "night" setting but everything just came out blurry. Next time I will just stick with "auto"! Anyhow, the view was wonderful and I was very happy with the seating. In addition, there is a great view of the Fireworks from here, and you are allowed to stay (and request more drinks) even when Fantasmic has finished. For that reason, I'd definitely advise people to reserve the 9pm show rather than the later one.

I did manage snap a photo of the dessert box when we got back to our room. Here it is -

That's with some of the stuff eaten, too! There were about three chocolate strawberries and the Mickey Mouse shaped items are rice krispy cakes with marshmallow.

Hope this review helps anyone planning on doing the premium seating package. I'd definitely recommend it - despite being hesitant at first I think it was money well spent. To have awesome seats and only have to wait half an hour (with drinks and snacks provided) for the show to start definitely makes it worthwhile in my opinion. :)

Okay, now you've convinced me to do this. Been holding out due to our not wanting to sit through things - anyone know if they'll be doing Fantasmic in October???

Thanks for the review and the pics too!

I see they havent changed the offerings at riverside seating, just now it's pre plated. They offered the same treats a couple of years ago.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and you felt is was money well spent. We did it last year and we were disappointed, we were the second ones to check in (it was actually an accident that turned out well lol) and even then I was put behind a pillar but my dh had a great view with nothing, not even a fence blocking his view.

We didn't like the desserts, but our server was super nice and I enjoyed the free drinks but personally it wasn't worth the money to us, and an elderly couple behind us were clearly furious with their set up because they got mad in the middle of the show and left because they couldn't see. But everyone is different and I'm glad you guys had a wonderful experience :thumbsup2

I'm sorry you didn't have such a good experience. I must admit that if we had not been in the first row and did not have excellent views then I too would have been disappointed and felt it was not good value. I really can't stress how much I recommend people to arrive early - being stuck in the third row (or the second row with people not only in front of you but also behind) really, in my opinion, wouldn't be much fun and I would totally feel annoyed at how much it cost for a mediocre view. We were lucky that our row was "by itself" in that there were no rows behind us, so we could stand up if needed (it was the drink station behind us).

I hope you still had a great trip. :)

Of course we had a fabulous trip, we did other things on our trip that we felt were worth our money and I don't regret doing the premium seating at all, but we'll never do it again. To be honest we were disappointed with the desserts, we originally wanted the balcony seating but it was full (the desserts looked so good), so when we noticed the price for premium was the same we were expecting more than stale rice krispie treats. But I think it would be great for a group of people, or even kids because you can all sit together and the kids would love the treats I'm sure, but as a couple it wasn't worth it.

I agree with you, you MUST arrive early, we were in the front row but in our own little section that seated just the two of us and the couple sitting behind us. The couple behind were having a hard time seeing over our heads(they could have stood but being elderly I don't think they wanted to) and even when they were able to see around us they were blocked by fencing and pillars.

yeah I hear you....I just did it in Dec. and they gave us a box...I didnt like the hot chocolate or the coffee (nesca caca) and I didnt try the sodas because it was way too cold but I totally loved doing the riverside seating:love:

If you have a child that can sit on your lap, do you *have* to buy them a ticket? I know it's probably "no", but it never hurts to ask!

Yes I know I am cheap!! :cool1:

You have to pay for children age 3 and up (who also need a ticket to get into the parks.) Children under age 3 (who also don't need a ticket to get into the parks) may sit on your lap.

Thanks so much for your review. We will be going in September and have PS reservations for the 8th. I know we will enjoy the show and goodies. Thanks to your hint, now I know that we better line up way before 7:00 if we want to get the best seats.

Hey Mariezp - we will also be there on Sept 8th for the 9 pm F! show. I guess we will see you in line around 6:15? We are two adults (see my pic below), DH will be with me. What does your party look like? We will have to look for you! I am really excited to not have to wait two hours and fight with the crowds for an awesome seat for the show (and the fireworks). Plus we don't have to sit on the ground:thumbsup2

We will have to look for you and Mr. Lulubelle!
There will be 4 of us, DH, DS-16, DD-7 and myself. I have a tiny photo in my avatar but I don't think you can tell a thing from that. Hmmm, let's see if I can post some other sort of photo.

Hey, that worked! That's us but we will be without the teenage girl. I've got a short hair-do rather than the ponytail but otherwise we pretty much look the same. DH will probably look nearly identical because he wears the same thing ALL THE TIME! Men are so simple!

Is this your first time doing the PS for Fantasmic. It is ours and I am really excited. I originally had planned to do balcony but this will have to do. Either way has got to be better than waiting for hours. Heck, this is even my first time to see Fantasmic. I have been through the area during the show and thought "These people are crazy!" At the time I also thought it might be a bit scary for our DD. So 7 years later I have finally decided to take the plunge and see what the big deal is all about! So I figured we might as well go all out with the PS because I was not about to camp a spot 2 or 3 hours.

So see you in line fellow DIS member and Fantasmic PS buddy!

Hey, mariezp, we'll be there 9/8 also - we'll see who makes it to the front of the check-in line! But seriously, I wonder if it will be as crowded and if we have to get there that early the week after Labor Day.

Thank you for the review! I am thinking of booking this when we go in November for my DD's 3rd birthday. The cookies look yummy!popcorn::

Well now, this is quite interesting! That's now three of us on this forum heading for PS on the 8th! I wonder if DISboard members have taken over. (MU-HA-HA!)

Lulubelle and I have posted our photos so we can look for each other, so now let's see a pic of you/your party so we can find you. How many in your party?

I guess we better keep it civil lining up for those seats! We don't want to have to come home and fess up to seeing people fighting in line with someone and it be a bunch of us!!!! ;)
