What's the best kind of pen to have the characters use to sign the autograph books? Also, do they just sign their "character" name or do they also write your child's name (or any other name for that matter) too?

Generally the size of a Sharpie works best. Easier for Mickey and Goofy to hold onto. ;)

A Sharpie or even a crayon works. They didn't write my kids names but sometimes they would write a funny message or draw a heart....something along those lines.

No names written for us either. We bought pens from the Target dollar bin that had strings to go around their neck. They were fat so easy for the characters to hold onto.

We had a name tag made for DS that he wore at the parks and the characters called him by name and a couple addressed their messages in his book to him as well. It really personalized the trip for him which was great.

We bought a pen inside DL, BIG and Mickey ears up top. Easily handled by the characters.

We just got back and I recommend the clickable sharpie. Our plan was to buy an autograph book in the park that had the picture sleeve next to it and a pen... My boys each picked one out... and they were cute.. but the pages on one of the books was blue in color and it had a design ALL over it... and it came with a blue pen :confused3 the CM told us the autogrpahs would be hard to read.... but DS had his heart set on it so we bought it and figured we would just buy a marker at one of the stores.... 5 stores and 45 minutes later we found one at the Compass Bookstore Sundries booth in DTD... not the store but the stand in the middle of the walkway.... they had a small stock of markers.... but the stores had zero... zilch... nada. At Goofy's kitchen the characters would use our markers to sign the books at the tables around us. So take a few markers with you (in case you lose one!).

We used Crayola twistable/retractable crayons, long and easy to hold for the characters . They worked really well and I liked that there were no mishaps with permanent ink if one slipped.

I also brought clickable Sharpies, and it was nice not to hassle with a pen cap. :thumbsup2

Even the characters with big paws were able to sign well with this. I don't know how they write at all with the big paws and enormous heads on, but they did a great job. :goodvibes
