Dilemma! Cab, Car Rental, or Hoof it

I have been weighing my options for both of my upcoming trips.

In September, we are on a fridge swap, and need to get to the grocery for just a few items. I am trying to decide if we want to get a cab from DTD to the store, and then back to the hotel, or if we would come out almost as well to do a one day car rental from the CCC. I have also considered just walking to the HESS from DTD and taking the bus back. All I really want is Milk, Cokes, and Mountain Dew. Any suggestions?

For my December Trip we are flying in on Airtran with my parents. I was wondering if the car services will pick you up at one of the parks if you request it. From my understanding, we will already have our boarding passes, and our luggage will be checked through all the way to the plane, correct? So we could pay our own transportation from the parks to the airport and get several extra hours park time, right?

You could have a grocery delivery service deliver groceries to you, rather than rent a car or take a cab. The deliveryb charge is usually about $15-20.
I would think that walking to the Hess station at DTD and then walking back to the bus stop, with those heavy bags might be a huge pain.
Or you could have a towncar service pick you up at MCO, stop at the grocery store and then continue on to your resort.
I can't say for sure if the towncar companies will pick you up at the parks. I will say that even though DME picks you up 2 3/4 hrs before your flight time, the towncars will pick you up about 2 1/4 hrs beforehand. Sometimes that isn't just enough time to get through security!
If you book a towncar, see if they will pick you up at a park rather than your resort.....can't hurt to find out.

we are staying at POP. So we only need a half gallon of milk and two six packs of soda. The grocery delivery places have a minimum order of $40.00, and I don't need anywhere near that much stuff.

I would just go down to the shop at the resort you are staying at and purchase there. The money you will spend on transportation will more than cover the mark up on those items when buying on grounds.

Go to the HESS Station. It's very convenient and the prices are a lot less than the shops at WDW.

I agree. You only have to get 3 items, the markup isn't worth running all over the place.

just realize that DME will not take your luggage w/out you (even on AirTran)...
The OP is referring to using Resort Airline Check-in, which is a service only available at the end of your trip, on the way back home. RAC has absolutely no requirement that you ride the DME bus back to the airport. DME and RAC are separate programs, but Disney does a lousy job of explaining that.

So to recap, at the end of your trip, you can check your luggage with RAC and get back to the airport any way you like. Always been billed that way, always run that way since Day One. But it's an easily confused set-up, to be sure.:goodvibes

I totally agree with bab31 and DebbieB ... just buy what you need at your resort. A taxi, with tip, has gotta run about $15 each way. Even if it's $12 each way with tip, that's a $24 round-trip cost. That means in order for the taxi ride to the grocery store to be cheaper than the resort gift shop, the resort gift shop would have to sell the milk for $8 more than the grcoery store, and would have to sell each 6-pack of soda for $8 more than the grocery store.

thanks for that info eric... as the saying goes: learn something new every day :)

And I need my MD!! I guess I could just run to the Hess for that!

You can't get Mountain Dew at the HESS either. They are on Disney property, NO PEPSI.

The closest Mountain Dew would be at Goodings Grocery, about a 3/4 mile walk down Hotel Plaza Boulevard from DTD.

If you have room in your luggage, I would recommend just buying some 20oz plastic bottles of Mt. Dew and distributing them around your luggage. I've done that before and I've done it with bottled water.

I will have to do that. I guess for the milk, I will just buy it at the Everything Pop store!
