Car seats in taxis?

I plan to use a taxi for several of our upcoming trips between resorts and to the front of EPcot from the BC. It has belatedly occurred to me that A. there might not be room for three adults, one car-seated 2 year old and the driver and B. taxis might not have car seats. Do we need to bring her car seat with us - does FL require children in taxis to be in car seats? And has anyone ever crammed three adults and a child into a taxi? How do taxi drivers deal with people wanting to install a car seat? And then what do you do with the blessed thing while you are having dinner or whatever? How do you all deal with this?:confused3

I'm sure I don't know the "right" answer but in all my travels I have never seen a taxi with a carseat nor have I ever witnessed a passenger installing a carseat in a taxi.

I haven't either, but I live in Austin and there are not many taxis around here and I just never noticed when I was in other cities. This is our first trip with my 19 month old DGD and am not sure how to proceed. Is the car seat law different for taxis?

We had a group of 5 including a 3 yr old. I called ahead and requested a taxi van with a car seat. No problem at all. Have fun!:)

In Florida car seats are required in taxis. You do have to request a taxi with a car seat because not all of them carry the car seats. So if you need a car seat request it with the bell stand or the taxi company you call.

You can also request that they dispatch a mini-van with a car seat to give you all a bit more room. You might have to wait 15 minutes or so, but just plan ahead and you'll be fine.

Mears taxis are on all stands. They do not have mini-vans. The vans are full sized 7 passenger vans and charge the same rate the regular taxi charges. Most of the vans at Disney also carry at least one car seat. The reason is that they have more room than the 4 passenger sedans used for the regular taxis.

Mears taxis (checker cabs) are at Disney cab stands. They are not all equipped with carseats, but many do carry them. The car seat is required in a taxi for small children under 5 years of age. You can request a van with a car seat at the cab stand and it will be dispatches as such. A sedan will also carry 3 adults and a car seat comfortably.

Is it hard to get a booster seat if you request one?

Actually (and unfortunately) Florida law only requires children 3 and under to be in a carseat - children 3-5 are required to be in a seatbelt. When we needed a carseat we just let the bellman know when requesting a taxi from the resort and never had a problem.

You are right. I did not look it up before posting. That is very rare indeed that they require them.

I read the law as a child 4-5 can use a booster seat w/ the seatbelt, but it may not really be that way.
