Can DH get member perks if he does not have a member card?

I purchased a resale contract while DH was out of town and it didn't occur to me until planning for our next trip that there may be a problem with him getting the discounts at WDW if I'm not with him at the same time at the same place. Because of the age difference of my 2 kids, we often split up and divide and conquer with the attractions and the meals--I take DS and he takes DD. It would be a bummer for him to miss out on the dining discounts if I'm not with him. It doesn't help that I have kept my maiden name so we don't even have the same last names. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice...I'm learning so much from all the DIS experts on this board.

Unfortunately, if your DH is not on the contract, it may be a problem. However, I have found that most dining discounts will work using only the room key that designates DVC Member. Sometimes, though, we are asked for the actual membership card, in which case, I'm afraid yourr DH will be out of luck. It truly will be hit & miss.

This shouldn't be a problem as your room keys will state "DVC Member" right on them. But while on the subject! The wife and I are both on our contract, but DVC refuses to issue two member cards. Does anyone know the reason behind this ( just to cheap? )?

Seems odd to me. My DH & I both received cards when we purchased. We purchased BWV directly from Disney in 1999.

Are you both owners? My hubby and I both have blue membership cards and my adult daughter also has a blue membership card because I listed her as an owner also. Only owners get the ID cards. I would call again if you are both owners on the contract. All three of us even got Pin numbers to have our own individual accounts online and when hubby and I receive a gift, my daughter also receives a second gift since she lives at a different address. We purchased through Disney if that makes any difference.

As for the OPs concerns, sometimes we are asked for our blue membership card. I guess as long as your husband knows that the discount may not be honored when you are not around, it won't be a surprise to him if he's denied.

DH and I joined DVC in 2005 when we purchased a resale contract at BWV. We're both on the contract and we both got membership cards.

You can add your husband to the deed for as little as around to 50 dollars. It is not that difficult to do.

Thanks, everyone, for your response and advice. We found an interesting solution to our problem...we just came across a resale listing for BCV which seemed perfect for us, so we are going to make this a whole separate contract--this time, with both our names on it, so DH should get a member card. Originally, I was going to do a small add-on for BCV with Disney, but after I found out that waitlisting/ purchasing BCV points through Disney as a California resident will take forever as Disney had not registered enough BCV units for Californians, so we decided to go the resale route. Now, I have the option of having this second contract to be our master contract (this time, with both our names on it!) for future add-ons, which apparently, according to veterans on this board, seem to be inevitable once we become DVC members.

Agreed... seems odd. DW and I recieved our cards in 1998 and then renewal cards sometime after. Each got our own card with our names.
