"Frost your own cupcakes" at Chef Mickey's??

One of our fondest memories from Chef Mickey's from our 2001 trip (besides the peel and eat shrimp that DH fondly remembers. lol) is the "frost your own cupcakes". Do they still have this? Thanks

Your thread title caught my eye, and made me giggle for a reason that has nothing to do with the frost your own cupcakes at Chef Mickey's. (I haven't been to Chef Mickey's so can't help you there.) My DS has a funny cupcake saying he uses when people are crabby or rude to him..."Who licked the frosting off your cupcake?" Whenever anyone mentions cupcakes, it's what I think of. Sorry to hijack your thread. I am sure someone will be able to answer your question!

They didn't have this when we ate there in Feb 2007. They have make your own sundaes - vanilla and chocolate soft serve (and twist) with all sorts of toppings (candy, cookies, nuts, etc). DS had the top your own cupcake at the Garden Grill character dinner.

Thanks Melanie, I'm sorry to hear this Their vanilla frosting was "vanilla bean" and it was out of this world! LOL

Anyone else been there lately? How is Chef Mickey's overall lately?? Thanks!

I hate to say that I am happy to hear they aren't doing it anymore. Why? Because I was torn with book CM for breakfast or dinner. I went with breakfast. If I found out they had a cupcake bar, I would have been BUMMED!!

It's been a long time since they did Frost Your Own Cupcakes at CM...I remember those...they WERE really good. My family goes to CM every year as a tradition (we've been going since 2000), and they definitley haven't had cupcakes at CM for the past 3 years at least, probably more.

I'd say the food at CM has gone a little downhill. I mean, it's still good. They still have the sundae bar and the delicious parmesian mashed potatoes, but they got rid of the cupcakes, and it seems like their dessert selection is less original. They used to have really fun, unusual desserts like a banana tart and that Mickey chocolate mousse cake. Now they've got mini cheesecake, brownies, Mickey Mousse domes (which used to be better than they are now), little blueberry tarts, and rice crispie bars. It's still good, it's just not AS good as it was.

I have to second AGPrincess, I think CM has gone downhill. We had dinner there in June and it was okay but nothing special. There were many "mini" desserts to choose from which looked good, but we found them almost tasteless. There wasn't a wide selection at the buffet, it was okay but not great. Character interaction was again "okay" but nothing really special. We'll try garden grill or Liberty Tree next time.

Thanks everyone! I'll let my DH know that they no longer have the "frost your own cupcakes" at CM. He was telling me about the CM who was working at the frosting station and who yelled at him to be careful to not TOUCH the frosting, only dip the cupcake in it, like he was 5 years old.

Anyway.... I think he'll still want to go since the peel and eat shrimp are still there, since he remembers that as being pretty good. I guess you can't really mess up boiled/steamed shrimp. lol

Thanks again for the info and comments. At least we won't be disappointed now if we still go, to see the cupcakes not there anymore.

Chef Mickey's has always been the highlite of our trips, a must do...when we went last March I also felt it was just OK...I still Love WDW but it is sad to see it sliding downhill...

Garden Grill in Epcot does have a build your own cupcake. It comes on a plate that looks like an artist's palette.

I think they have it at Coral Reef too.

My family and I loved CM last year for dinner. The salmon was awsome and so were the potatoes. It was our first meal of our 9 day trip. After that it all went down hill as far as value and quality. This time we booked it twice. We however did not book Garden Grill or Coral Reef again. IMO, the food did not compair to CM. We also ate at CP and weren't crazy for it and 1900 which was okay, but not as good as CM. We did book LTT and LeCellier again. Hope this helps. Also, we will try CP for bfast instead as it gets higher ratings.

Probably had to get rid of the cupcakes cause too many little kids had their fingers in the frosting. They just can't resist frosting.

The last time I remember seeing the Make Your Own Cupcakes was on our 2002 trip. My DD loved doing that too!

We just did CM this past month, it had went downhill. It use to be good but my ham I couldn't chew it, not even the ham for the salad. The food was very bland. I had better food at Park Fare and they have shrimp too along with Trails End, that are like CM.

I have an ADR for CM in October, but have been torn if I should keep it or not, as I've heard Cape May is a really good breakfast option. For those who've been and those who say it's went downhill, should I switch my breakfast ADR to Cape May instead?

Never been to Cape May, but we went to Chef Mickey's for breakfast November 06, and it was a disappointment. The best part of the meal for us was the overpriced picture package of our family.

The food was so-so, and I felt very rushed with the characters. Left a buffet feeling unfulfilled, which is odd. We likely won't go there again. Crystal Palace allthe way!!
