Should I be worried?

I'm going to WDW in Nov and staying at AKV. But I'm getting this weird feeling that I am being "forgotten". Let me explain...

I've been hearing, well actually reading, all about family after family being offered upgrades from AKL to GF, Poly or even SSR due to the construction at AKL. WAIT A MINUTE! Why are all the "paying" customers being upgraded for free, because of all the AKL construction but all of us DVC members are being left high & dry???? Is the construction that bad? Now it's too late for me to switch unless I want SSR. Why don't I get upgraded & moved?? Am I missing something here? :confused3

Am I out of line or do I have a legitimate question here? What is going on?

You are talking about different inventories here. These are regular resort rooms that are being moved. I also think they are moving the people who have reservations in the next month or two. So far nothing about late in the year has been mentioned. Apparently one person was told that most of the heavy construction will be done by September. I would also suggest that as DVC members we should all be aware that there is ongoing construction if we make reservations for the next few months and therefore accept the issues that go with it. People who made reservations a year ago for the regular lodge rooms did not have advance warning and I think Disney is offering them an out plus some of the rooms on the affected floors may no longer be available. I would think that in November you will be in the area that has been renovated and therefore not near the ongoing renovations. I don't think you have anything to worry about and hope you have a great trip.

I'm going to AKV because I own there and it will be just opened!

I know that there will be construction, but that's a part of it as far as I am concerned. I want to be in on the ground floor, so to speak. There will hopefully be many more years at AKV to come.

Remember that they rearranged the construction schedule at AKV. My guess is that there will be construction going on in the lobby area and along the front of the resort and possibly the Kudu trail earlier than originally planned so rooms they expected to have available in that area are now unusable due to anticipated construction noise. I can't imagine being on the 4th floor of AKL with construction going on immediately above my room.

You will be staying in an AKV villa so your accommodations will be in an area where construction has been completed. There might be noise in other areas of the resort, but not directly overhead in your case.

Yes you are out of line.

Because you are going in NOVEMBER.. and those folks you are reading about are going in the next month or so...

Because when YOU and I booked then WARNED us about the construction. Those folks booked a year ago before Disney announced this and they were not given the warning... So when they warned you you had the option to say no. Those folk didn't....

DVC pretty much is exempt from "upgrades" extremely rare to have that happen.

castleri is right. Cash rooms are a different inventory. Say you used your AKV points to stay at the Poly (not a DVC resort). You paid for your stay with points and Disney turns around and sells those points to cash customers so they can their money for your stay. Cash customers are also potential DVC owners and it behooves Disney to upgrade them when they can. Just good marketing.

I'd have to agree with the masses...

The resort guests paid for a deluxe hotel stay and were likely unaware of the situation coming on. They're getting moved to get the experience they paid for.

Your purchased into a timeshare under construction and are getting what you were aware of - a timeshare under construction.

I don't think there will be much, if any, upgrading of DVC reservations because they're all the same for the most part -there are no "value - moderate and deluxe" DVC levels.

My understanding is that they decided that they needed to close the third floor to complete the construction - which left an entire floor of booked guests with reservations needing an alternate.

We're staying AKV in July and I would not switch it, even for a GV elsewhere! I really want to see AKV and any construction noise from 9-5 is a non-issue since we are not in our room during those hours!

AGREED.... nothing else could be an upgrade. We're not owners, but we can't wait to visit AKV...

Somebody bought AKV instead of VB... :sad1:

Just kidding... You did the right thing! :thumbsup2

I think I didn't make myself clear. I know there is going to be construction at AKV when I'm there. I also know that it's a different inventory. That's not what I was implying. I don't want to be moved to say GF, it's just that when I was reading about all these people being moved, 1) I didn't know when they were going and, 2) I had this vision in my head of a three quarter empty hotel with just DVC members in it & construction men everywhere. I didn't want a free upgrade for myself per-say, I just wanted to be moved to another DVC resort if everyone else was being moved for when I was there.

I am fully aware that there is construction going on for the next year or so. Once again, I was just nervous when I heard about all these people in the resort I'm staying at being moved, but I had heard nothing, and no Disney never said anything to me about the construction while I was booking or on my reservation confirmation. Now I know what's going on. Thanks.

Wow, all of my ressies, for September, December and May have notice of construction noise. It's under the point total. I wonder how/why they missed your ressie!

I was surprised too. I had heard from so many on DIS that all were talking about the construction note on the sheet, but mine doesn't have it. Maybe because I had already had a reservation, but then switched it to AKV? :confused3

Timeshares generally approach things differently and most purposely don't upgrade members for fear of creating the expectation of buying low and getting an upgrade. In this case these are likely three groups that include oversold status, a disparity of usage of CRO reservation and for AKV, those displaced by the construction schedule being changes. Like airlines, hotels do oversell at times. DCL is a great example of the second group. Say Cat 10 & 11 fills up and cat 4 - 8 are fairly empty. If DCL upgrades someone from a lower Cat, they can sell another room that might go empty otherwise.

I understand how timeshares work. I wasn't expecting an upgrade, IMO, I don't think there is an upgrade from a Savannah view.
