Exercise question

Hey all!!

We're leaving for WDW in about a month :-)cool1: ) and I'm beginning to wonder what to do about exercising. I've been doing a workout DVD every other day for a couple of weeks now and I'm not sure whether or not to continue it over the vacation, so I thought I'd ask your opinions. There are two reasons why I'm leaning towards skipping it for the time we'll be there, but maybe they're just bogus excuses, you tell me. 1.) The workout itself takes about 45 minutes which isn't too bad, but that cuts into the park time. Plus with our routine being different (since we'll be in parks and all) I'm not sure if I can set a definite time to do it. 2.) A lot of people have said of these boards that going to WDW is sort of an escape from the everyday rigors of life and I feel the same way and so I end up tossing in the exercise routine into that category of the everyday routine. As a result I'm hesitant to keep up with the workout. I just would like to escape it all for a little bit before going back to the "real world".

Sorry for this being as long winded as it was, but any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!!

Yes, you will be doing a lot of walking but if you still feel you might want to get a quick 20 or 30 minute resistance workout in you might be able to head into a gym on Disney property. Which hotel are you staying at? Otherwise besides the walking you'll be doing during the day, a quick 10 minute pushup/situp session right when you wake up in the morning might make you feel less guilty about skipping your normal workout.

You will be walking the parks everyday, so you could skip it. You could also do a 20 minute power walk around your resort or around the lake, if you're staying at a deluxe resort. Or you could hit the gym, if you have one at your resort, for a quick weight workout.

Most days we end up walking several miles at the parks, so I consider that my exercise. I'm usually so tired that I couldn't imagine fitting in another workout (plus, my feet ache!). If you want to do more, that's great, but for me, it would be total overkill.

I read somehwhere that it is appr. an 11 mile walk if you spend the day in Epcot!!! I actually lost 3 lbs when I went to WDW last July, and I ate EVERYTHING!!!!!

I exercise walk 75-90 every day. I vary the location; beach, wooded trails, berm of cranberry bogs, & sometimes, streets(we have almost no sidewalks in this town, only a mile or so near the schools & small shopping area in town & the streets are narrow since most are former Indian trails) On our Thanksgiving trip last fall I had assumed that the amount of walking in the parks wd be similar, it was not. It was too cold to swim, so I did start power walking in the morning for about 30 minutes. I'm the first one up, so that worked out well.

You likely won't be doing that one exercise video for the rest of your life - it's good to mix it up. There is a LOT of walking/running that can be done at Disney (enough so where my husband suggested posting the walks in photos, which I do on my site). I love the BW and Fort Wilderness. If at a deluxe resort or CS, there are fitness centers as well. You can do abs, push ups, etc. I personally also take stairs most of the time, I like being on a higher floor to get extra steps in (though I can also just take the stairs for exercise, even if staying on the 1st floor).

Thanks for all of the great suggestions everyone! I think I'm just going to end up doing some quick abs in my room in the mornings and maybe some jogging every other day. But like most of you said, the walking with supplement alot of the exercise so that's a good thing. :thumbsup2 Thanks again everyone!!!

BW will be great for exercise! You have a fitness center to use if you wish, and the boardwalk is a WONDERFUL place for a walk/run in the morning or evening. I used to live just 10 or fewer miles from there, and that was my exercise regiment a few times per week (including walking in Epcot).

I have a photo walk of the BW here: http://www.mousesteps.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=26&Itemid=52

Also of Epcot, but everyone has been there! You can also walk over to Fantasia Gardens and enjoy a round of mini-golf (that is exercise too!) You are in a GREAT place for that! I wouldn't waste my time in the hotel room exercising when I can be out and about. :) You can walk up and down the steps also at the BW, or elsewhere.

The DVC part doesn't matter as far as the fitness center - anyone staying at the Boardwalk Resort can use the resort fitness center (Muscles and Buscles) for free. (it used to cost extra).

Walking around in DW is a work out in itself. Plus, you will be sweating alot, so that'll lose some extra calories as well. I suggest you get to take in all of what DW has to offer, not many people in the world rarely if not ever got to go. Nope on the exercise from me.

Your Disney vacation will in and of itself be a workout so I would not worry about formal workout sessions during the trip.

My wife and I are starting to do treadmill stints daily so as to work up to a 4-5 mile a day pace. My last trip through the world was done by ECV with my last foot-trip being 5 years ago so I have some excersizing to do.

One of my favorite things to do at Disney is walk - and to find new places to do it (at Disney, or anywhere else - Paris, London, etc.) There is so much the average guest ends up missing. Birds, animals, flowers, etc.. Exercising gets me into areas where I'd never have actually gone otherwise.

I am not sure if Muscles and Buscles has anything like a sauna/steamroom - but the Saratoga Spring spa has a whirlpool/sauna/steamroom. That is a big treat after a workout!

Great suggestions everyone! Keep them coming, I'm sure they're very helpful to people other than myself! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Exercising you can do that doesn't include a videotape: :)

Muscles and Buscles
Walking/Running the Boardwalk
Swimming in your Resort Pool
An Evening Stroll around Epcot
Fantasia Gardens Mini Golf
Go to Downtown Disney, take a walk to and around SS and OKW (very nice walks!)
Take the Stairs instead of the Elevator
Going to the FW Movie? Go to the WL, walk to FW from there
Skip Boats and Trams when you can.

See your doctor before taking any of my suggestions. :)

Disney is part of my fitness regiment still, even though I'm not living as close anymore (40 miles instead of 10!)

:rotfl: Exercise? Never ride the tram car from the parking lot to the main entrance. You get plenty of exercise. Stay away from the ice cream, funnel cakes, candied apples, or anything else that might be tempting. :thumbsup2

Too many ice creams and funnel cakes sort of does defeat the purpose. :)

But I do have an ice cream when it's hot out (one is okay, snacking on junk all day is not!)
