We're leaving on Saturday and I started packing our clothes today. We used the Ziploc bag idea and it has definitely made for a more organized suitcase! There's a little more room, but the main difference I noticed was the organization. I think it will be a huge help in the hotel room, no digging and rifling through all the clothes to find what I need.

Great tip, thanks Dis!!

I did this for our last trip, but only for the kids clothing. I put 1 shirt, 1 shorts, underwear/diaper & socks in a 1 gallon ziploc. I labeled each kids name & what day to wear- that way if DH was getting them dressed their clothes would actually match (& fit- he has a bad habit of making them look homeless! :lmao: ) I will defin. be doing this for our next trip in Sept.!!

I used gallon sized and we put our clothes in them...a complete outfit for each bag---shorts, shirt, socks, undies. Plus, I put some of the toiletries in Ziplocs also: shampoo, sunscreen, etc.

Whatever you do, make sure that any liquid or gel-based toiletries that are going into your carry on luggage are no large that 3.4 fluid ounces and ONLY use quart-sized bags.

You might also consider packing a flat duffel to pack all of your souvenirs in for the ride home unless you plan to ship anything back.

I did this and it was GREAT!!! I used gallon size ones for the kids clothes (1 outfit per day) and 2 1/2 gallon bags for my and DH clothes. That gave me some room for extra shirts. My favorite part was using the bags for dirty clothes at the end of the day. The smell stayed in the bag and not in our room :)

I did this for just the kids clothes too, it was great!! I liked that it made their suitcase so much easier to pack and neater looking. I never know what I am going to wear with what so I couldn't do mine, and dh is your typical tshirt and jean shorts kinda guy, so he was a no brainer!

THanks for the above. I do use plastic garbage bags for our dirty laundry to bring home. If I wash them on vacation, I have a large bag to hold them all.

I've never thought of the garbage bag idea. That is great. I'm adding that to my "tips" list. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I also found it useful to pack kids complete outfits in each bag, then compress them like space bags. DH thought I was nuts at first -especially due to the quantity I packed for 3 kids for 8 days, but he appreciated it when we needed a bag to put something in later! Next time I would add a pop-up dollar store hamper for use in the room!

Just remember that if you pack with ziploc bags and fly, you can get more in your bag and you need to watch the weight. Airlines have weight limits and they will charge you if your bags are over the limit.:)

I ALWAYS use ziplock bags whenever I travel, they are a life saver! How many times have you have your shampoo explode, your hairspay gunk up your clothes, or had perfume bottles break!? Its a disaster! I always put my shampoo, hair products like gel, combs, hairspray, perfume, lotions, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste in aip lock bags so they dont accidently get on anything. I also pack my jewlery like neckleces, earrings, braclets in their own bags so they dont get lost and messed up. Its so convient! Hope these suggestions help

Those big ziplocks are also great in case your bag gets picked for inspection. I never would have even known they'd opened my bag except that the memo was stuck on top, thanks to everything being in ziplocks. And unpacking is so quick!
