Will gas prices go up as high as they say? And if so....

....will airfare be going up too? We're looking to go in Nov. and have always flown SW but I can get JB pretty cheap right now. I'm going crazy not knowing if we should book our flights now or wait?

I also posted this in transportation as I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything about gas prices for the rest of the year!

If you've found a rate that is decent I would book it! I booked ours about a month ago and got a super deal on our airfare! Remember, the airlines set their prices MONTHS in advance, so the current rising fuel costs are more than likely not accounted for yet.

If you can afford it, and you think it's a good fare, I say go for it! If it comes down you'll be upset, but if it goes up, you'll be..let's say..even more so. Just my .02

Hmmm. It's all some sort of game isn't it? There are 3 gas stations on my corner so any day I drive down the street I can catch the penny/dime/quarter ante action.

It sounds like you've been watching your fares. If they are a good deal, get them now. If I recall, sometimes the fares didn't go up, but you'd find a new fuel surcharge buried in the taxes & other fees area...

Gas here in suburbs of St. Louis, MO jumped from $2.91 to $3.14. I hear the national average is $3.20. Supposedly some refineries are off line in the mid west. Well once a few tropical storms or hurricanes roll thru, they can take those off line too.

Maybe when I turn 40 there will be a hybrid mini cooper s & I can get a lovely wind turbine as a lawn sculpture! Zoom! Zoom! Swish! Swish! BMW has 3 years to roll out my model!

I hadn't thought about that...guess I'll book to be on the safe side!

We decided to bite the bullet and book from Newark for $59 each way....we do have to fly home on Thanksgiving though to get the cheaper airfare. We were gonna hold out for SW as last May we got $34 and $39 airfare but the way gas prices are going I guess it's better to be safe than sorry!

I booked already for Oct. for that same reason! Going Jetblue for $59 too from Newark. Would have rather flown from Philly(I dunno just seems closer) but no other airfare was close for nonstop! But doesn't it feel good to have the airfare done with now?!:cool1:

I think you made the right choice. We booked flights for thanksgiving time to go to MA this week for the same reasoning. I can't believe how high gas is, I just filled up for $3.29 and that was one of the cheaper ones around me:scared:

I'd book now. I was thrilled to get gas this mroning for $3.46 - it's going up everywhere else around here to $3.59. I'm just glad we booked our airfare last month before that goes up too.

It seems to me that I read somewhere jet fuel prices aren't necessarily related to gas prices. Either way - now you have confirmed flights and that will make the rest of your planning easier.

Here in Michigan we are paying $3.70/gallon. I heard on the news last night that 60 cents of that price is Michigan taxes. Our economy is BAD in michigan - you'd think they'd give us a break not tax us even more.:confused3

That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Actually, dh just looked up the tax rate on gas and it's 35.2 cents per gallon, plus 6% sales tax and .875 cents per gallon environmental fee.

And speaking of tax breaks (NOT), I just heard on the news this a.m. that our lovely guv Jen is pushing for an income tax increase to deal w/the state's budget shortfall. That'll go over real well here in the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation, won't it? :sad2:
