We can not afford to stay in a deluxe resort for the entire vacation and because of the pricing of the tickets it costs to much to actually split between two resorts. In order to get the free DDP you have to book hotel and at least one day park ticket. So I thought we would spend our first night at BC with no tickets or DDP and on the second day head of to POP with the tickets and DDP. That way we have some fun at a deluxe and start the vacation with relaxing day. If you can understand my rambling please put in your two cents.

We're actually splitting our stay next trip as well. Several people recommended it here and I think it's a great idea (you get to experience 2 resorts in one vacation and save money while doing it).

Is that Dan Zanes? lucky...my kids love him!! :)

I am doing it the other way around this time. First few days at Pop and then go to BC. Either way -you're bound to have a great time!:thumbsup2

It's a good idea but personally I'd do it the other way around. Keep the best for last :) Plus, your credits expire at midnight on the day you check out. Share a few CS and save some TS credits, this way you can use them for dinner on the day you switch to your new resort.
Plus the DDP is linked to your resort stay, not your tickets. For example, if you stay 3 nights at POP you'll get 3 days of DDP, but if you wish to you can buy tickets for 4 days or more. And you can go to the parks every day of your stay.

Hope that makes sense!

Most that split say do recommend you stay at the more upscale resort last. We split once as 3 days at POFQ and then 3 at Contemporary. It was fun.

I was told over the phone that the I could not have a DDP unless I purchased at least a one day ticket. I was also told that since the stay was two different hotels it would be two different reservations. So I can really only do one night at BC with no DDP or tickets in to the parks. If we did it the last night I wouldn't have time to really enjoy the resort. We would get back from the parks sleep and then leave the next a.m. to go home. That is why I was going to BC first. My dd is worried that we will feel let down when we get to POP. I just am so confused now I don't know what to do. Lucky for me I can think on it a few more days.

It's true that if you have tickets for your last day you may be tempted to go to the park & then you won't have time to enjoy the resort that much. In that case I wouldn't buy an extra day.

Yes it would be 2 reservations, one for a package and one for room only. This is what we've done before & will do again this summer. We just save a credit to use on our last night.

For example. You stay 4 nights at POP July 1-4, you each have 4 TS credits
1 night at BC July 5 - no dining plan
Your DDP credits will expire at Midnight on the day you check out of POP (July 4th). So you can keep credits to use on that night, even though you're now at the BC and technically not on the DDP anymore.

We stayed at the Boardwalk while my mom was at POP. The only reason we were at the Boardwalk was because I had won a trip with a Toronto radio station and the accomodations were for the Boardwalk. Actually my 6 year old liked Pop Century better even though we didn't sleep or swim there he just felt that it was better. I think that maybe it was more kid friendly or fun vs the other ?

I think it's a great idea to try out both. I've always wanted to stay at the Poly and so I might do that one day. One night a Poly the rest a POP.

Enjoy your trip!

I would also stay at BC the last night - and since it's soooo much cheaper to add a day to the tickets you already have to buy, I'd do that too so I'd have tickets for my BC stay. :goodvibes

In other words, if I was you I'd book the 3 day free dining package at POP, but instead of buying 3 day tickets I'd buy 4 day tickets at that time.

Then I'd book another separate reservation for the 4th day at the BC.

I'd try and plan to save some DDP credits from the POP stay to use for my BC day. Since the DDP doesn't expire until midnight of the day you check out of POP (which is the same day you check into BC) you'd have until midnight of the day you're at the BC to use any remaining/leftover DDP credits.

Then I'd use the 4th day park ticket the day I was at the BC, and it would be just like having an extra day on the package = tickets & meals!

I know you said you wanted to relax around the BC, but for the small difference in the price when adding a day at the time of the buying the package, it would be so worth it to be able to run over if I wanted to (and of course I would want to - just ask my DH!)

Here's an example pricing at POFQ (I realize you want POP, but POP doesn't show availability right now for my example dates so I just used POFQ because that's what came up first. I really just want to show you how much cheaper it is to add a day to the tickets instead of going without):

8/28-8/31
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter
Check In August 28, 2007 Check Out August 31, 2007
Staying for 3 nights, 4 days
Adults 2 Children 1
Room Type Water View
Tickets 3 Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket
Package Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining Package includes 2007 Package Inclusions
Special Rate September Magic Your Way Package plus Dining
Grand Total† $1,122.81
Change it to 4 day base tickets and it's only= Grand Total $1152.63

That's only a difference of $29.82 total (NOT per person, but for 3) to get the 4 day base tickets instead of the 3 day.

Then you could use the ticket's 4th day for your stay at the BC. For another day at WDW, that's a bargain :rotfl:

(You could also add park hoppers, etc. to those tickets instead of going with the base tickets - I just used those as an example.)

I hope this all makes sense to you! Just what I think I would do in your case to get the most out of splitting your stay! :teacher:

Seahunt: WOW, can you be my travel agent, LOL :rotfl2: I'd hire you in a sec!

I have never switched resorts but I was curious from the people that do....do you feel at all that you spend "time a wast'n" while you have to pack up, check in and check out more than once? Going from resort to resort by bus system? Or do you all rent cars?? I just thought it was too much work!!!
I'd be curious how you guys all handle the situation to take advantage of your time...THANKS!

I'm doing my first split-stay next month from what I hear it's not a big deal. You just check out and have your bags moved then check in. It might take a bit of time but I'm hoping it's not too complicated.

I agree with my friend with the happy cat. We tried to do a split & either we just couldn't figure it out, or Disney wasn't all the interested in helping us with it. As far as I can tell, it's not so much the DDP that screws up the ease of all this, it's the park tickets. A one day ticket, which is what they require for the DDP package is like $68-where the difference in price between say a 4 & 5 day ticket is just a couple bucks literally. Guess that's where they try to get you. Seahunt, your plan looks great. I might try to figure one out for our next trip which should be next May. A POP & either WL or POlY split sound good.

We've done a couple split stays painlessly. I love 'em, actually--but I've always been a fan of "samplers!" :) We usually don't do a park day on the day of the switch, but here are some other things we've done/could be done that day--
And really, there's nothing wrong with checking out and heading to a park. We just like a non-park day once in awhile.
1. Check out and head to DTD. Shop and eat lunch. Return to new resort.
2. Check out and head to a water park (if you have the Water Park option on your pass.) Return to your new resort.
3. Check out and head to a character brunch. Pack a swimsuit bag. Then head to your new resort and enjoy the pool.

And yes, bell services handle the luggage transfer without a hitch. :)

If you are doing a split stay, you should buy all of your tickets with your first reservation and make the second reservation a room only and use the leftover tickets for the room only reservation. The only way that does not work is if you want the dining plan, in which case you would need to buy a one day park ticket but can add dining for the length of your stay.

To me it's not a waste of time but it does make planning a little more complicated. For example, we switch from ASMU to Poly on July 21st. I wanted to go to Epcot on the morning of July 20th and AK on the 21st. That doesn't make any sense because we'll be so much closer to AK when we're at ASMU, and we'll have the monorail to go to/from Epcot once we're at the Poly.

Besides the half hour or so it takes to check in you don't really waste time. Last time we just let Disney handle our luggage and went to the parks. Instead of taking the ASMO bus on the way back, we took the bus to POFQ.
This time we'll probably just pack up our stuff in the morning and take a cab to the Poly. By 9am we'll be a Epcot.

I would do it the other way....

Your tickets will still be good if you check out of pop and go
to BC....
Also you DDP expires at midnight on checkout day....
So if you plan right....you can have a meal left for your
day at BC...

I am thinking of adding a room only for one night to stay at a deluxe for just a treat. I figure I have the AAA discount and maybe an AP if it comes out!
