Old Key West Questions

Hello,

I have questions regarding OKW accommodations.

Right now we have reservations for a 2 bedroom villa. Today new Annual Pass Discounts were released for OKW. Unfortunately I was told by WDW that these discounts are only available for studios and/or one bedrooms....so I thought about it and it seems to me that a 2 bedroom villa is the same as a one bedroom and a studio, so if I make 2 reservations I should still end up with the equivalent of a 2 bedroom villa.

I was told by WDW that studios only have one queen bed and a sofa (yet 5 years ago when we stayed in a studio at OKW it had 2 queens). I was also told that you cannot have a studio and a one bedroom together, that they will be at opposite sides of the buildings (yet in a DVC book I have at home it
states about OKW "most two-bedroom accommodations consist of a connecting one-bedroom and Studio combination, while some are dedicated two-bedrooms.") We received the book this year from a Disney Vacation Club Sales person so I would assume it is up-to-date.

So....I guess I am wondering if anyone can tell me if I try to change my reservations to a studio and a one-bedroom so I can save close to $900.00, is it possible to have these rooms connected (or at least close to each other)? Has OKW changed so much that this is not possible? Do I call OKW directly?

Thanks for your help.:)

A studio bedroom at OKW will have two queen sized beds in it. There is no sleeper sofa in the studio at OKW.

While it is true that a one bedroom and a studio connect to form a lock off two bedroom, there is no guarantee that you will get a lock off two bedroom by reserving a one bedroom and a studio. You might get lucky, though. Or you might wind up with a studio in one building say on South Point and a one bedroom in another say Miller's Road.

You could always request that they be close together.

I agree with what Deb & Bill said.
I think the lockouts are buildings numbered 30 and higher ? But I agree also that there will be no guarentee of getting these rooms together unfortunately.
I have no idea where they are getting these CM's lately ? On another thread, they told a DIS poster on the phone (2x she called), that she will not be able to use disney transportation, despite the fact she has MYW hopper passes. I just don't get the info they're giving out any more ?

For them to tell u that the OKW studios had a sofa bed ? It is the only DVC studio that gives you 2 queen beds. That has not changed. The one bedroom has a king and a pullout sofa bed in the living room.

Good luck.

You are thinking about the villas with the extra door from the laundry room into the bathroom so you don't have to go through the master bedroom to get to the bathroom.

I don't understand where the discount for an AP comes into play however. If you are a DVC member, you get a discount on the AP or PAP whichever you choose to buy. Are you not a DVC owner? Is it some kind of promotion for non-DVCers to rent at a DVC resort? It seems very strange that the discount is for smaller rooms and not the larger ones.

You could request a one bedroom with a designated sutdio lock out, but you are not guaranteed this option, so as the other posters stated, you could be in completely different buildings if you do not get the request.

As others have stated it's two queen beds, no sofa bed in a studio.

Thanks to all for your info. We really want to stick together, so I guess we will have to lose out on the discount in order to guarantee this.

To answer your question, Wendy1953, no we are not DVC owners (wish we were!)....and I really can't see why the discount is only for one-bedroom and studios, even though there are two-bedrooms available.

I may call tomorrow morning and try again, who knows, maybe I'll get someone who will say "sure, two-bedroom villas are eligible".

Thanks:)

Yep, that's probably exactly what will happen! You'll also be told that the studios at OKW have two queen beds, and other (accurate) information refuting what you were told today.

You are right Deb & Bill....just having a major case of brain fog today ;)

Hi Wendy,
DVC Members do get a discount on AP's. Often, even though we are Members and use our points to book rooms, many of us prefer booking rooms with cash using an AP discount to save points on the weekends. DVC charges very high points for using rooms on Friday and Sat's. So alot of us, book cash night for Fri/Sat, then use our points for Sun thru Thurs nights. Even if an AP discount is not available, there are often (but not always) additional Member discounts on DVC rooms available. Sometimes it's hit or miss with the discounts.

I wonder if there are a limited number of rooms the discount applies to, like (just to make up a number) there are 10 two bedrooms, 10 one bedrooms and 10 studios that the discount applies to. If that's the case. maybe all 10 of the two bedrooms with the discount are already taken.

My other question would be whether the price of renting a one bedroom and a studio with the discount might end up to be the same price as the undiscounted 2 bedroom.

I do not know when you plan on checking in, but if you have the 2 reservations linked and then request on both of them that you be connecting to each other AND you could arrive very early in the day (say 7AM or so) to "check in" and let the desk know that you would STRONGLY prefer a lock off unit so the studio and 1Br were together and you would be happy in any building if they could connect you I think you would be REALLY likey to get a unit together.

We go every summer to OKW with extended family and always have a 2 BR and a studio and we always request that they be close together...in the 9 summers we have done that we have always gotten them in the same end of the same building. I know it is not the exact situation you are in...but they do try hard to accomodate and there is a LOT more flexibility in room assignments if you arrive early in the day and make your request. If you cannot arrive until late in the day to check in I would not be so confident of getting connecting units. Early helps a lot at DVC resorts because of their assignment system.
