Will the tip not be included in the 2008 DDP?

May be a little late on hearing this, but has anyone else heard this rumor?? I know that if its not we will not be purchasing the dining plan and may stay off site next year as well.:confused3

I have seen mention of that here. And I completely agree with you, if that would be the case, then I would have to think about staying on site and using the Dining Plan. :)

Thats terrible. We just got back off of the Wonder and really suck a chuck of change into it, so Disney may not get as much of our money next year!!

There is a rumor to that effect, apparently started from info received from union reps who are in negotiations with Disney. I personally don't buy the rumor. I have no direct knowledge, but it sounds like a negotiating ploy on someone's part, rather than a real thing.

Eliminating the gratuity from DDP would fly in the face of the rationale for the entire program, which was supposed to offer an "all-inclusive" plan for guests. It seems to me it would make more sense to completely eliminate the DDP than to remove an integral part of it. It really wouldn't be much of a plan for our family if the gratuity were not included -- I'd really rather go without it.

We'll know for sure by the end of June. I wouldn't worry about it until then, as there isn't any official information available regarding this yet.

I've seen posts regarding this. Would they reduce the price of the DDP per person or would it remain the same?

My kids have been begging to stay at the Nick Hotel. This would be their chance! If they change the plan we will definitely try staying off-site. Hopefully it is just another rumor....

I totally agree with you!

This is a bunch of hype given to union members by union leaders to tell them that they are being looked after.

They tell the members no more tip (however, disney probably hasn't said that).

Next the disney execs agree to the same deal as last year with an increase of a dollar or two to the price of DDP (no mention of taking tips away).

Finally, the union reps say "man, we really fought for you guys and guess what...the tip stays".

Union members keep paying dues and its status quo as usual.

SO, I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT!!!

OR...it could just as easily have been put on the table by Disney to force the union reps to fight to keep their tips. That puts the union reps in a position of having to negotiate away something else in order to keep something Disney had no real intention of taking away. Either explanation works to the benefit of someone in the negotiations.

None of us know who initiated this rumor, or why, but I'm sure we all hope it goes away.

From what I've read (which at this point is all speculation), the price would remain the same. So, this equates to a lose-lose situation for the CM's and the guests as we would actually be paying quite a bit more o-o-p and there will be some servers that get "stiffed" by people leaving less than an 18% gratuity or possibly nothing at all. :(

There is a certain logic in letting the customer dictate the tip, vs. a fixed 18%. I know a lot of people disagree, but putting the customer in charge of the tip will improve customer service. In reality a tip is an incentive for good service, The server accepts the risk vs. reward of hard work. They may be rewarded by over tipping or punished by getting stiffed... if you want a steady paycheck for a fixed wage, don't be a server, be a cashier or a ditch digger.

The price increase does not equal a backdoor 18% increase in the cost of DDP... in real dollars it is more like 6%, give or take, as you do not tip at CS or Snack locations... and it will change the habits of those that are eating at the upper end restaurants on DDP that would not be eating there if not for DDP. If you do the math for a normal family there is still a cost saving, just less so then when DDP includes the tip. This would in turn free up the upper end restaurants for those paying OOP, who would normally frequent and tip at restaurants at that caliber.

Servers that would otherwise not be able to earn a living as servers will seek employment else where, again improving service. No, the good servers would not leave, as they would still get tipped for providing good service... only the servers that suck would argue other wise. The good servers were making a living before the included tip; therefore they can do it again with out the included tip. Will there be an adjustment period, yeah there always is with a change. But change, like death and taxes, is inevitable.

Its is even less of a backdoor than that. The Dining Plan has only gone up $1 per day in price in three years, a 2.6% increase, while inflation has increased about that much EACH YEAR. So a price increase (of perhaps 5%) is already overdue.

Tip not included I'm not buying the DDP. Only use DDP if its free. That takes the value out of it for us if I have to come up with 18-20% tip onto the price of DDP.

This issue has already been posted, turned very not nice and was closed. When and IF Disney makes an official announcement about a change, we will post with news.
