Can she taste your food? Yes. Can she eat a few onion rings or a couple shrimp or some of your appetizer? Yes. No one is going to ask you (or her) to leave because she has a little bit of your food. Can you ask the kitchen to split your order and she orders a glass of water? No. That's outside the rules of the plan.

If your mom orders herself an entree and beverage and you pay OOP for that and then she shares some of your food (appetizer, dessert, etc) then I don't think that will be a problem.

We get the dining plan everytime and my sister comes for a few days and joins us. I just arrange the number of CS and TS to include her. I use my TS meals and just have them take hers off of that. It doesnt really short us, because we dont eat TS everyday. It all depends on your eating habits.
It works great for us and I feel good being able to treat her. We have done this on 2 trips since last June and it worked great.

Thanks so much for your replies. I did not want to get down there and have it not be allowed. I do understand about splitting the meal in half. That makes complete sense.

From the Dining Plan FAQ (which quotes the Dining Plan brochure; sorry, I don't know how to do the picture thing):
"Can I share meals with guests not on the Dining Plan?
No. The Dining Plan cannot be shared with guests who aren't registered as part of your hotel reservation." And since everyone on the reservation has to participate in the Dining Plan or nobody can...

What you may not be able to do, and certainly what you are not supposed to do (according to the rules of the plan), is use one of your DDP credits to pay for her meal.

I've never done it, but personally, I feel that using one of one's credits to buy a meal for someone in your party not on the DDP (at least insofar as one could do so without being dishonest, meaning telling your CM server what you want to do and seeing if they'll let you) is pretty much a no harm, no foul situation. I can understand the reasons why Disney has the rule, though, and even though most if not all of those reasons are related to maximizing Disney's profit, I'm not advocating breaking the rule.

Hi

Have you been able to do this since January? I had heard they were really getting strict with this and not allowing you to use more credits than you had listed on the card. For example, if you had 2 adults on the meal plan, you can't use more than 2 at one meal (unless it is a 2 ts credit meal, of course).

I know someone who did it in March of this year. She told the CM to charge x meals to the DDP and x meals OOP to the room key. He charged all the meals to the DDP even though not everyone was registered to the room or on the DDP. So should you? no, probably not. Can you? apparently.

We've done the same thing, but it depends on the CM. They don't have to do it and sometimes won't.

It's actually more than that: They're actually not allowed to do it, and if caught doing it, they'll be disciplined.
