Help! Itching from Room

Just got back yesterday from a week in WDW. We stayed at POR. Loved the resort - loved the theming! But....the kids started complaining of itchy feet the first couple of nights but I really didn't do anything. (Great mom huh!) But later in the week both my husband and I had itchy feet. I called housekeeping and asked that all of our bedding be changed. In addition, I went to the front desk to make sure they were aware of the problem. We got home yesterday and my feet still itch....no bumps....just itching like mad. Can anyone tell me what the heck we could have gotten. Doesn't Disney change bedding between guests???? Yech I am freaking out!

Since you just mentioned your feet maybe it is athlete's foot from the bath/shower? Just a thought. Try a anti fungle cream on it for athletes foot see if it works to stop the itch.

My wife and I had that happen once and it was actually the stuff the use to deodorize the carpets; we were having allergic reactions. Finding out was a blessing though. I went to my dermatologist and he said it was an allergic reaction but in the meantime he found cancer; caught it just in time! (Knock on wood)

my son had that last august -- we stayed at Pop Century. Then, my sister and I both had it happen on our March trip.

It itched for a good week or 2 after I got home, but did go away on its own.

I asked in First Aid in the park about it (while I was there for another reason). The nurse there said she sees it sometimes. On the backs of the legs, she said, it's from reflections off pavement. On the tops of feet, she said it's mosquito bites or something. It was NOT mosquito bites, and I never saw a bug. It seemed there was too much of it for bug bites, on too many of us, and on different trips -- so I think it's a reaction to something somewhere.

Next trip, we are going to wear socks in the hotel room, see if that prevents it. Could be something in the carpet deodorizer or something. If your itching doesn't start to improve, see your dr.

It does sound to me like some type of allergic reaction! Not fun! Do you have sensitive skin?

Thanks for the knowledge, I have had problems with some of the carpet deodorizers before, so I will be wearings socks all the time in the room.

People actually walk barefoot on the carpet in the hotel room???? YUCK! I guess I have a hotel room phobia. I've watched too many TV shows showing the yucky things in the rooms after they are supposed to be cleaned by housekeeping. I ALWAYS have my feet protected by slippers or flip flops. I won't even walk on the floor in my socks. I take Lysol wipes and everything gets wiped down as soon as we get there, especially the remote control. One show swabbed the remote and found traces of poo on it. I don't want my kids touching that. Am I crazy or do others do the same thing???

Me too! I bring Lysol everywhere we stay and spray everything.

There's a rash (can't remember the name, something like "duffers rash" referencing golf) that some folks get while at Disney World. It's a form of vasculitis .. itchy & annoying but not serious (not bug bites, not fungus).

Well, no, we don't actually walk around hotel rooms barefoot -- we keep our sandals on in the room. And the itchy rashy thing happened on the TOPS of our feet, in the areas not covered by sandal straps. That is why we are going to switch to socks in the hotel room.

I was thinking the same thing -- and also something to treat grassy areas, to control insects or whatever.

I stayed at the Dolphin last month and had the same thing...it was an allergic reaction to the pollen and stuff in the air from Epcot....we did Epcot the last 2 days of our stay and this is when it happened...during the Flower/Garden Festival

Put Benedril cream on it and took 2 Benedril tablets and I was ok in a few days

The nurse that said it was probally bug bites was more than likely refering to "chigga bugs" (not the tech term)...they are very small and most of the time you cant even see them. These bite like mosquito's but itch WAY more than one. Just thought id throw this information out there!

maybe it was the cleaning products used on the sheets. or the comforter- do they spray a "Febreeze" like thing on the comforter so it sells fresh?

The chiggers, or noceums (sp?), like someone else mentioned.

I had small bites on my feet, and legs when staying at AKL.
At first you might think they are mosquito bites. But they itch way more than mosquito bites.
I ended up going to urgent care because I got like 4 bites on my little piggy toe, and it was really swelled up. Got stuck on cortizone pills.

If your still itching and its been several days, and everyone is itching.

Did you try the benadryl pills, or the benadryl creams.
They may help with the itching. If your not wanting to take the benadryl pills during the daytime due to sleepiness, try them at bedtime so you won't be tired all day.
Otherwise send one of you to the doc and see what they say.. and treat the whole family.

I always bring the travel alcohol swabs that are in little packets, and the benadryl cream. I am a target for all the bugs.
While at epcot I've gotten biten by unknown bugs, and swelled up later too.

"bed bugs" actually do exist. over the last few years it has gotten worse in hotels. This includes upscales hotels as well as moderate or cheapo.

I'll bet you didn't put sunscreen on the tops of your feet, between the sandal straps.

I had the same problem. Violently itchy rash, on my shins and forearms. Worse at night, so bad that I couldn't sleep. Thought it was the laundry detergent used on the sheets. Benadryl made it better. Went away a couple of days after I got home.

This happened on a couple of my WDW trips, until I ran into someone who had the same rash, and their doctor told them it was solar dermatits:

Apparently the sun is so much stronger in FL, that for those of us who aren't used to it, it can cause a dermatitis.

I've since started using sunscreen every day when I'm in FL, and have never had the problem again.

Wear flip flops or slippers in hotel rooms. I know someone that come home from a luxury hotel with warts on her feet and had to have them removed
