We have tenatively booked POR as our hotel for our December trip. We love POR, and the price is right. But now DH is consdiering CR, for the convienece factor of the MK. It would cost us almost $1k more whihc is fine, but is it worth the price? The monorail is nice, but....we are just afraid that if we leave POR that we'll be disappointed.

Any deluxe resort is better than a moderate, IMO. More services, more amenities, larger rooms, larger beds, etc. Being on the monorail is fantastic, and being able to walk to MK is great. We love the CR. Just be aware of the renovations in the lobby.

I sure hope so! We're booked for a week starting late Aug. It's been a dream of mine to stay there ever since I first set foot on WDW property over 15 years ago! We finally bit the bullet and forked over the big bucks (although we're booked in a std. garden view room - the cheapest you can get).

Ditto what they said. Yes, I think a deluxe is worth the money, but our family tends to spend time at the resort, we don't go full out wide open commando, we go often enough that we don't feel the need to do it all at breakneck speed. Our one moderate experience was not great, we felt too far out of the action. But, it's a matter of personal priorities.

The Contemporary is worth the extra $$ because it's one of the best Resorts in WDW. They have the best Magic Kingdom view which beats the one at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian, California Grill, Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse are some of the best restaurants in all of WDW, their stores are amaizing, they just re-opened the arcade on the 4th floor and they are the only Resort where you can walk to the Magic Kingdom in 10 minutes. Also here is a list of the upcoming renovations for the Contemporary.

August 2007 - Newly renovated Fantasia Shop will re-open.

June 11, 2007 through November 2007 - The Lobby will undergo partitioned refurbishments to update the area's image and decor.

July 2007 through October 2007 - The resort's grounds will undergo partitioned refurbishments to install new landscaping and re-route existing guests paths.

July 30, 2007 through April 2008 - The Food & Fun Center will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as a new table service option, "The Wave". During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 -The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. Jumping on board with the rest of the deluxe/CR fans!!! We have stayed at CR at least a dozen times, and have also tried a mod (OKW), and hands down, CR is worth the money!!! Each time that we have tried a resort that is not on the monorail, we end our vacation saying, "This was nice, but it wasn't CR......." Go for it!!!

I gotta say we stayed at CR once and the next time at POR and every time we went by the CR on the bus to the MK (while at POR) they kids were whining about how much they loved CR - go figure! (I thought POR was beautiful and the pool was better for them - no baby pool at the CR).

Although I never stayed at the Deluxe Resorts, I do go to their restaurants and hang out at the lobby. I think it is worth it because it is a different experience. It was always my dream to stay at CR or the Poly. Oh well, maybe one day.

We switched from POR to CR and were glad we did, but we didn't pay $1K more (had AP rate). I'm not sure if it's worth that much, especially if you like POR. What we liked about CR:
-Location, and being able to walk to MK.
-HUGE rooms, nice new decor
-monorail
-restaurants

I didn't think the theming at CR was as good as POR. It's definitely a different feel, especially at the pool and on the grounds. Have you priced what CR's garden wing rooms are? We had a ground level garden wing room with a patio and we enjoyed it very much.
