Port Orleans in January

I have been leaning toward the French Quarter based mainly on the bus service. If I am planning on going in Jan., should I not worry about the crowds and go with the Riverside since I like the appearance of it better? Who has been in Jan. and how was the bus service?

We went in January (1-4) and the bus service was fine at FQ. However more often that not, by the time we made it to the 2nd POR stop the bus was full and the POR guests had to stand.

I stayed at pofq from 1-21 for 4 nights....
I lloved it.....

The buses were usually full by the time we left POR...
people were standing....

If you really like por better just go for it...
bus ride is not that long.

I would think you would be okay, but on second thought, maybe WDW cuts down on the number of buses at that time of year, creating a crunch. :confused3 Sounds like you are better off at POFQ.

I would stay where I WANTED to stay....I would not base my decision on buses. Especially considering that the majority of the people who have stayed at POR had no problems with the buses. I would feel terrible if I was giving you bad advice, but we didn't have any problems whatsoever. When you read threads about the buses filling up at POFQ, that means they send out other ones to complete the POR route. We used the West Depot and got a seat every time. I believe the outlying depots are much less crowded than the Main Depot, so I would use one of them.

If the buses were so bad, there would not be so many people who have stayed at POR multiple times.

POFQ is great and has many fans; I'm just saying that you should pick what appeals to YOU the most. Have a great trip!

When we stay at POR we've never had to stand on the way to anything. On the way back from one of the parks, we did, but that wasn't directly related to who had the first bus stop.

Well we stayed at POFQ last January, but we never took the buses. We had rented a car and took that to all the parks. It just worked better for us.

That's a good point. On the way from the parks back to the resorts, you could be standing no matter which one you pick. All resort buses pack 'em in at park closing time!

I have a question for those of you that were there during the Marathon -- did Disney add more buses, was it more crowded, or would you not have known there was a marathon based on the buses?

We're going for the Marathon, and I don't think we will actually enter any Parks (or so dh says). I'm wondering how crowded the buses will be from Epcot to POFQ when we're exhausted, sore, and in need of TLC...

We're just doing the Half, that's enough of a challenge for us!

Hey, DH is doing the half too. Staying at FQ.

We were there for the marathon weekend 06 and IIRC they had more busses available for those going to the race at Epcot.

The bus for non-racers didn't seem any different crowd wise, it just took a bit longer to get to where we were going because of the foot-traffic on the roads. As long as you plan for extra time you'll be ok.

We went to the MK on marathon day and it really wasn't that crowded, IMO. I think because it begins/ends at Epcot that would be the park to avoid that day.

I was at POFQ January 5-10 2006. The marathon weekend was right in the middle of our trip. We never had a problem with bus service.
We had a great trip!:cool1:
