How is Rose and Crown for dinner? I've looked at the menu on allearsnet.com and it sounds good. Does anyone have any favorites? How is the atmosphere? TIA!

We went there for the first time last month for dinner. I had the fish and chips and dh had some sort of steak I believe. The server was very friendly and attentative - BUT...we thought the food was $$$$ for what we got and it seemed to take FOREVER for any of it to come. Again, the server was around frequently - but no food! We were seated near the bar area so it was noisy but that didn't bother us so much.

We had always wanted to try it and we did but I don't know when we will go back.

After many trips to WDW, we finally tried it last week. We really enjoyed it. I had chicken and DH had pork. Both were really great. Sticky toffee for dessert was also good. We had a 7:30 ADR and watched Illuminations.

I *love* the Rose & Crown. It's a must for me whenever I go. Their Fish n Chips are really good. My wife LOVES their Bangers and Mash. And The Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert... WOW!

This is one of my favorites! I love the beef stew, so much that I make it at home now. We always have great servers and wonderful food.

My family LOVES Rose & Crown. We eat dinner there once almost every trip. We plan a dinner that will allow us to watch Illuminations.

As for slow service please remember that it is staffed by Europeans. They eat differently then we do in America. You are never rushed in Europe. You are allowed time to talk and NEVER get two courses served on top of each other like here in the States. I love the relaxed pace. I find Rose& Crown staff to be pleasant and attentive. I have NEVER had a bad meal there.

Our fav meal there is
Fruit and cheese plate and prawn coctail for app.
Steak and fish or Grilled steak entree
Baileys Irish Cooffee Triffle for dessert

DD18 always gets the Cottage Pie. I love the Bangers and Mash, Guiness Stew and the Cottage Pie, too. I don't like battered fish.....so I never have that. We have dined there each trip (at least once, usually more than once) since 1998. We, too, appreciate the "slower" pace. I absolutely HATE having my entree brought out while still enjoying the appetizer. (On a rare occasion when I am "in a hurry", I simply tell my waiter that I am in a bit of a rush and then service is hurried up or they know I don't mind the salad AND the entree being there at the same time).

Rose and Crown has consistently given us good food AND good service over the years.

We loved Rose and Crown last year when we went for the first time. Dh had the steak, which was wonderful, and DD and I had Cottage Pie, also wonderful (and easy to make at home!) I want to go back just for the sticky toffee pudding (too time consuming to make at home!;) ) I was really loud and rowdy when we were there for a 7:50 p.m. reservation, but the server moved us to an outside table:-)banana: ) when we mentioned that the party of 10 next to us was so loud DD was holding her ears. Both waitresses we had were superb and did everything to make our meal great!

Since the meal is slower paced here, I would recommend a 7:00 ressie if I wanted to watch Illuminations from their viewing deck or from an outside table.

We visited Rose & Crown last month and loved it. Both of us had the steak & Fish. One thing to note the menu changed the week before we went and 2 of the items I had been wanting to try the Guiness Stew and Shepard Pie were not on the dinner menu any longer. Not sure how accurate the allears.net menu is but something to keep in mind.

We ate on the covered deck-great view for Illuminations. Our server was fantastic. Apps. were great as well-Potato & Leek soup and the fruit & cheese plate.

I'd go there again.

My husband is British so we go there for at least one meal every visit for him to get a little feel of "home" :)

I like the food there too btw. There's some kind of apple crumble thing they had for dessert a while back and it was fantastic!

When I first saw this, I thought, "Did I already reply to this thread?" :rotfl2:

My DH is British, also, and it's the one restaurant he requests on each visit. In March, our entire area of the restaurant was filled with Brits so he really enjoyed that!

We're very fond of the bangers and mash. The gravy is heavenly. I also enjoy the fruit and cheese plate.

We had an adorable server on our last visit who was from Northern Ireland--the same county where DH spent 5 years of his childhood so they had a really nice chat.

Our whole family loves the Rose & Crown.

Wow! I hate to be the lone voice in the wilderness, but my family thought the food at R&C was quite awful. My steak was inedible and DH agreed. The chef came out and offered to cook another steak for me but I said if its coming from the same source and being cooked the same way, how can I expect an improvement? The meat was skunky-tasting. The apples in the apple crumble were raw and seemed to be added late in the cookng process. I can usually find something to like about every WDW restaurant but not R&C - the server acted like a frightened rabbit who scurried back and forth, snatching things off the table before we were done, bringing parts of our meal late into the meal. I am glad to hear that others have had much better experiences.

Aside from MEM's post, I'm very relieved. I was really on the fence about this ADR, but now I can't wait to try it. Thanks everyone!

.

I can't believe it--no more cottage pie?!? But I love that stuff!:sad1:

If you like mushrooms try their mushroom appetizer. I can make a meal on that, it's so good. We also like their fruit/cheese plate, their lamb/barley soup, fish and steak combo, bangers & mash, and sticky toffee pudding. We've always received excellent service.

This past Dec I couldn't find anything I was in the mood for for lunch at MGM, so left MGM, caught the boat to Epcot, and was able to get into Rose & Crown as a walk up. When the waitress arrived I told her I didn't need a menu, just wanted the mushroom and cheese/fruit appetizers for lunch. I was stuffed, but they were so good.

My wife and I make the Rose & Crown an annual place to eat. We have had many different items and always enjoyed them. I always have to get the mushroom appitiser they have. It is so good. :)

I am in complete agreement with your wife. I love the Bangers and Mash and the the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. As a matter of fact, I will be eating this exact meal in just over a month. :cool1:

We were very fortunate on our visit in Aug. to have a perfect table on the patio to watch Illuminations. If you are lucky enough to get the table on the patio, it makes for a wonderful experience.
