Anyone bought a 'resale' from www.dvc-resales.com ?

Just wondered if anyone had any comments, I am sure they are all positive one's.
Every couple of years or so we consider buying into DVC, and I guess now is that time of year again.

I think from each year on now we will stay at probably either BCV or more likely the Boardwalk for 4 or 5 nights, excluding weekends, so need less than 150 points by my reckoning for March holidays (24 pts per night).

No we bought direct when we were out there as we are from Ireland can not buy from here
OK for anyone in the UK

but I'm interest to see if any one else did
as a few extra points would be nice

Yes, Johnny, we have. We recently completed the purchase of 180 VWL points through them. It was a very straightforward transaction and was conducted mainly via email and faxes. We initially sent a 10% deposit via bank transfer and paid the balance when the sale completed 8 weeks later. We didn't get the first contract we wanted, as Disney exercised their ROFR, but Robert Machado of TSS found me something just as good within a day or so and that went through without a hitch. We paid closing costs of around $500 which was more than I paid when I bought direct from DVC. Sometimes you can negotiate for the seller to pay the closing costs. As the prices seem to vary so much, I had a good look at this thread to see what similar contracts were passing ROFR at. That gave me an accurate idea what price to offer the seller. HTH and good luck! :)

Yes we have too, we bought our first VWL contract through Jason at the TSS. No problems whatsoever.
Always happy to help with any questions we had.
From enquiring to completing it took 3 months.

We used them too and they were very professional and easy to deal with. The whole process was straight forward and as we have a US bank account we didn't have to worry about arranging bank drafts. To get the best value we were looking for a contract with banked points so I checked the site constantly and as soon as I spotted the right contract made an immediate offer which was accepted. We bought 150 points and got 150 banked points as well.

We bought at Old Key West and have had no problems switching resorts during August and over Christmas and so far we've used our OKW points to stay at OKW, Boardwalk, Vero Beach, Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club this summer.

we bought ours direct as we wanted SSR but just wanted to say it feels like a really good time to buy what with the dollar rate being so good.

someone was also saying on another thread that disney have put there hotel prices up for 2008 by a lot so maybe another reason to go with it if you want to stay on-site

good luck with your decision.

We bought through them to buy some points at SSR. No problems at all and they kept me up to date throughout the process. :thumbsup2

I'm not from the UK but I did buy 4 different times from them over the years and never had any problems. I bought my original 150 pts direct from Disney and then I bought smaller packages, 1 for 50 pts, 1 for 100 pts and 2 for 120 pts from The Timeshares Store. They say it's easier to sell off smaller packages of points if you need to in the future. I dealt with Jerry Sydow and he was the best. Good luck.

We are currently selling our SSR DVC with the Timeshare but as of yet have had no interest :sad2: . Its very sad that we are selling but this is due to DH and myself separating, going to keep our fingers crossed that we hear something soon. They seem a very friendly bunch of people to deal with :thumbsup2

Thanks for the responses.

We are still looking/thinking about it.
The tricky bit in a way is I really cannot see us going again at any time of the year other than Easter.
Joshua at school and Julie a teacher really restricts when we can go, and Josh hated it last August as it was much too hot for him.

Easter is obvioulsy 'Premier' time for points, even for 4 nights at the Boardwalk we would need 128 points - so we are just taking our time, I think BWV would probably have to be our home resort given the points ratings.
Plus we like the location.

Yes, those premier season points are very high.

We're thinking of doing something very similar. Buying a (relatively) small BWV contract resale to give us enough points for 5 nights in a 1 bdr, 2 years out of every 3 (most likely, it will always be July for us - so hot but no choice). So we need (approx) an 80 point contract.

I agree that BWV is the way to go as you have a great shot at the 'standard' view if it's your home resort.

I've already contacted The Timeshare Store. I'm impressed by their response and efficiency.

May I ask, how do you find the contrast between offsite and onsite? I see in your sig you do both. We're thinking of 10 days off and 5 days on. Up to now, both our trips have been onsite only. Thanks.

mrs-mac, so sorry to hear about your separation. :( I wish you luck in selling your contract. Sorry it has come to this though.

Hi Deb,

One thing about the Boardwalk, we stayed there last year, was that the standard view we had was very nice so we don't feel compelled to go 'preferred'. Having viewed the SSR last August we really liked it there, but prefer the location of BWV.
Our accomodation plans are complicated in some ways, Joshua is autistic so hotels over the last few years have been a non-starter as we really prefer privacy, cooking facilities and that extra room - relaxation is a big part of our holiday.
Villa's will always be our 1st choice, Josh is so at home in one plus he loves water so having that private pool is important too.

More recently on our holidays , whilst in some ways it's against what's best for Josh we have really felt the need to vary things more, and no longer want to stay in a villa for the whole holiday, especially as we go for 3 weeks now.
Over the years we have travelled around Florida and not just been based in Orlando, however recently for his needs we haven't travelled as much. Next year we are going back to Fort Lauderdale for 3 nights.

Last year's we didn't really enjoy, for a variety of reasons, I had a car crash 3 days before we left, Josh and Julie didn't like the stifling summer heat at all and I also had a fall at Magic Kingdom near the Pirates ride. 3 ADRs were cancelled too, tried to go for breakfast at a couple of off site restaurants but Josh just got very upset, so we figured best to cancel the ADRs.
Also we stayed for 17 nights in a villa, out of the 21 nights, but once it gets to 4pm in the afternoon Josh really doesn't like to go out - once he had his tea , he is happy to watch DVDs or videos and play with some toys or in the pool etc
Hence after a while the evenings became a bit dull, I didn't feel like going out on my own and was restricted to the odd drink at the bar at the Outback restaurant whilst waiting for our take-out!
We never go out at home at all really, and I cannot remember the last time I had a drink in a pub, just on holiday I like to 'pose', nice Tommy Bahama silk shirt, nice shorts and go out once in a while. :)

Staying somewhere else other than a villa gives us the best of everything, we have booked a villa for Easter 2008 and will stay there for 12 nights at the end of the holiday. Just feel it's a nice balance staying 4 or 5 nights at a DVC resort too, especially as you get the facilities of BWV and BCV (I love the ESPN bar).

So yes, I think it works very well, I wouldn't consider staying 'on-site' for all or most of the holiday though, mainly because we do not visit the parks each day and like to relax, do some shopping , go to the beach etc too.

Familiarity is a big thing for Joshua, he likes the comfort of a villa and doesn't take too well to changes and doing different things, we cannot even get him to go in a restaurant without him getting upset, so you can appreciate we have had to think long and hard about buying into DVC.

Johnny,

Thanks. Yes, we stayed in BWV last October for 10 nights (rented points). They upgraded us to a pool view but I agree completely, the standard view would do nicely! It's certainly a great point-saver.

Sorry to hear last year's holiday was such a bummer. Sounds a bit like one we had 10 years ago, except it was a lot closer to home. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, starting with a car crash and ending with me and our then 2 year old in hospital (gastric bug, nothing to do with the crash) and lots of other nightmarish scenarios in between.

I certainly see why you need to plan your holidays very carefully and why you must, first and foremost, meet Josh's specific needs. Although I certainly hope that you and your wife do get to see and do the activities you both love too. If any parents needed a little luxury and fun it's the parents of a child with needs above and beyond. I can empathise to a certain extent as we went through 3 years of behavioural therapy with our eldest (now 13). We are blessed in that he came out 'the other side' but we did put down a few years of deep distress. It's not the same (and no two cases of autism ever are) but I have been in that place where you simply cannot get up and go, everything needs to be planned.

:lmao:

:thumbsup2 Well I'm probably not the first to say it (as I heard it said often myself when my son was younger and our lives revolved around his needs) but you and your wife really should attempt to take time out. Even as I write it I recall rolling my eyes when others said the same to me. But everyone need a little respite.

By the way, Joshua is so handsome!!! :goodvibes

Thanks, takes after his Dad ;)

It's nice to be able to talk so freely on here about Josh, guess I am pretty open about most things anyway, I agree with what you say about ensuring we do things 'for us' too, it's just getting that balance right and keeping the 'handsome' young chap happy!

Will keep checking to see if anything looks appealing on the re-sales, guess it's just wait and see what happens really.

We are in the same boat as you Johnny and tend to stay in a villa for 2 weeks or so then spend a few nights on our DVC points down at Vero Beach and then at one of the on site DVC resorts.

DS's autism means he also likes the familarity of the villa we stay in but he is getting used to DVC accomodation as well. He and DD love the ocean so this helps. We are lucky that he and DD are high functioning so at least we can let them go to the kids club at the Poly for one night and get a meal out (the only time DH and I get out together is in Florida.)

If you stick with one resort it might become familiar to Joshua.

Good luck with what you decide

Thanks.

We actually stayed at the Boardwalk the first few nights of our August holiday last year and then moved on to the 17 night villa stay.
Later in the holiday we wanted to go back to BWV for breakfast at Spoodles, but Josh got very upset as we turned off to drive into the resort so we couldn't go in.
Mainly because I am sure he presumed we were going back there to stay, and by then he was happy and settled in the villa.
This is just one of the problems we have, even driving past the Formosa Gardens turn off to go to Publix or Chick fil a down the road is a problem as he knows where Indian Creek is and cannot understand why we are driving past it etc

So everything we do has to be well thought out! we would love to do some ADRs too, but we cancelled all of them when he wouldn't go into Golden Corral one morning.

Despite the excellent exchange rate, and a couple of really attractive resales with banked points that were available, for the moment we are putting DVC on hold.
Whilst there are no problems for us financially, we just aren't 100% sure at the moment for a few reasons, one of which is Josh is such an early riser and up at 5am every morning, not ideal when someone is in the room next door (especially considering he is running around and playing!).
In addition we have booked a villa now for most of our stay next year anyway, one we have stayed at before at a bargain price.
We may think again at some point but appreciate all the advice as at least we now know everything there is to know.
I think you need to have no doubts about it to commit, to be honest I am looking forward more to getting away to the coast for a few days on our Easter 2008 holiday than anything else.

Thanks for all the pm's, even though we are still unsure all the information we now have has been really useful for us. :thumbsup2
We may reconsider our plans at some point, in fact knowing us we definitely will - if so I will let you know.

If you have any doubts then you are right not to go a head at the moment. Be sure to take the tour when you go at Easter - I know it will be difficult with Josh and you might have to each go separately but it would be worth it

The coast is such a big part of our holiday that I know where you're coming from, have you considered renting some DVC points to stay at Vero Beach? It is a great resort with the hotel right on the beach :beach:

We have done the full tour of SSR Jakki , last August, whilst we found it useful but after a while I had to take Joshua out as he was getting fed up, and we did stay at Boardwalk last August but too early on the holiday I think - Josh was awake often at 2 or 3 am in the morning sometimes.
Not a problem in a villa but hotel, DVC etc it's not great in that respect really.

Staying at Vero was one thing that got us interested in the first place, however as we arrive on a Friday and are staying at the Hyatt MCO our 1st night we figured we would set off somewhere on our travels the next day, maybe for 3 or 4 nights before back to Orlando for the remaining 16 (the last 12 of which we have booked a villa for). It's always best if our villa stay is at the end of our holiday, as once Josh stays there he won't want to move into anywhere else - he kicked up a fuss last year when we returned to BWV for breakfast and we had to do a u-turn!
Naturally points are much higher at weekends, to be honest I cannot wait to get back to Fort Lauderdale and have a look around Miami too, but doing that AND Vero would be too much I think.

It is feasible , that later in the year we may re-visit the DVC thing. We shall see ;)
Everything is complex with our holidays and I guess I prattle on and on about this and that sometimes, mostly unavoidable with little Josh though.
