For those of you that prefer short stories to fat novels, you are in luck. This report will be nowhere near as long as my last one! Let me explain. First, this trippie only covers a three-day weekend as opposed to a weeklong family trip to the World. Second, the cast has been dramatically downsized to two: DH and me
so, no funny anecdotes about the kids to relate this time around! However, the last and probably most important reason for brevity is that I really hadnt planned on writing a trip report; so I didnt keep a travel journal or take any notes. Well, suffice it to say that my short-term memory is not as good as it used to be. (I really should begin taking Ginko or something!)
The Cast:
Principal Characters:
Ed: DH(45) Runs, bikes, and swims regularly. Usually runs 5Ks; attempting his first half-marathon this weekend.
Kathy: DW(43) Shops, cooks, and DIS-es regularly. Usually walks (the dog); attempting her first 5K this weekend.
Supporting Characters:
Tricia: DD(10). Really looking forward to having her cousin sleep over for the entire weekend! The American Girl dolls are ready, and the nail polish and dress-up clothes are laid out and ready to go!
Billy: DS(8) Autistic. Surprisingly unconcerned about Mom and Dad going to WDW for the weekend. (Whew!) Looking forward to a visit from his cousin, but especially from his Aunt Eileen .she gives good tickles!
Aunt Eileen: My DSIS. Generous and fun loving; she relates well to Billy and understands his quirky ways. Always ready to help out a sister when needed.
Caity: My DN(10). Preparing for a fun weekend with Tricia, Billy, and our dog, Aimee. Hoping to convince her mom that getting a dog is vitally necessary to the happiness of their family!
Aunt Rae: AR. Eds aunt. Lives in town; like a grandmother to the kids. Went to WDW with us last November and already planning for this years trip.
Backstory:
It all started innocently enough one evening last Spring, after the kids were safely tucked away in bed, and I was hanging out with Ed on one of his rare nights off. He was lying in bed watching CSI and reading a running magazine; I was at the computer, deeply submerged in yet another DIS trip report.
You know, theres an ad in here for a half-marathon at WDW in January, he remarked suddenly.
Up periscope.
Mmm-hmm, I replied, trying to play it casual. Ill bet they do a really good job putting on a race, he said, getting up to show me the advertisement.
Looks great! I said, glancing at the magazine. Youre right. They probably go all out.... characters and everything. Ill bet it would be a lot of fun. I turned back to face the computer screen, but I wasnt reading anymore. I just held my breath for what seemed like an eternity. Ed flopped back onto the bed.
Theyre doing a half marathon and then a full marathon the next day.
Mmm-hmm.
I could probably do a half-marathon. I did pretty good on that 10K; I just need to train with some longer runs.
Mmm-hmm.
Theyve got a 5K Family Fun Run, too he added. You could use it as incentive to run every day , he drifted off; distracted by the television.
Mmm-hmm. Gotcha!! I clicked on Travelocity to check airfares for January.
Now, I must explain two things so that you will all realize the extraordinary nature of the above conversation:
1. I am the one who is nuts about going to WDW. I do not run.
2. He is the one who runs. He thinks that I am nuts. Period. Because I am always talking about going to WDW.
Now we were planning on a weekend trip to WDW together ..without the kids .. to run.
This was going to be interesting.
